Doubting my makeup choice...and I'm practically a month away!

Doubting my makeup choice...and I'm practically a month away!

Ugh I dunno. i thought I loved my makeup trial at first...and now I'm not so sure. I liked that it was natural. But FH mentioned the smell- and I'm thinking it's the custom blend foundation.

now I look back at the pic from makeup trial as well as epics taken that day...and I don't feel I 'sparkle' enough if ya know what I mean....

I liked going to a salon because it's way cheaper...I just can't justify spending $150 on my makeup when I'm definitely paying way less for hair (my hairdresser since I was a kid who works from home).

Anyone know of any salons in Nassau/Western Suffolk that I can go to? or should I just mention my concerns to my makeup artist? Should I bring my own foundation and get her to change the colors?

Thanks!

Here's a pic from after the trial and then epics...

What would you change?

honestly, I think it is very pretty and natural and the picture in the car doesnt do you justice. I think it will pop more when you are wearing, oh yea, a white dress!

If anything, more of a shimmery eye shadow but still in the same neutral color?

Perfectly said! I think you look absolutely BEAUTFUL! It looks natural yet it gives you that 'wow' factor...dont really know what you mean about the make up smelling...never happened to me before...but remember..its only one day...and if you were happy with it to begin with then you should stick to it. In all honestly..I think you look great.

I think it looks nice, Tara, but I can see what you mean about the lack of 'sparkle'...

If that's what you want, here's what I suggest: have them use a lighter/pinkier lipstick with a bit of gloss on top (not 'just ate some fried chicken' gloss just a bit). Also, a tad more blush in a complementary color to the new lipstick, and a soft, shimmery eyeshadow, a bit more eyeliner and mascara.

Sounds like a lot of changes, but really it's not! Why not have another trial with the same makeup artist and ask for these changes?

I think it looks nice .My MOH for her wedding went to MAC in the mall and they did a free makeup trial if you bought something. So we spent $25 for makeup. Do you have pics of what you like? Take them with you and see what they can do.

i completely agree with this as well.
You dont have any blush on wich makes a very big differance and if you put some more mascara and eyeliner with the right eye shadow, it will bring out your eyes more. I also agree with using a pinker lipstick with some gloss, b/c this color is neutral, it doesnt make your lips stand out. But you still look beautiful b/c your naturally very pretty!

Re: Doubting my makeup choice...and I'm practically a month away!

I was wearing blush..maybe not enough or not the right color.
I agree about lipstick! I want something pinker with a glossier look.

I dunno though- the foundation bothers me. It's heavy and smelly according to FH.

And what bugs me? There's a salon literally around the block from my mom's that does makeup! HELLO!! I wish I woulda known then I woulda had a trial with them! for all I know they're booked...but I contacted them anyway. The original salon is like 10 minutes away which really isn't bad...but to go down the block would be awesome!!

I might just have a second trial with my original artist then...see if she can use another foundation or I can bring my own...FH mentioned the smell AGAIN today!

Okay, then DEFINITELY get another trial - either with the same MU artist or a different one... that smell is going to bug your FH if he's still mentioning it, and that in turn will bug you!

Take a printed picture (of your epics) to show what you had. Request a different foundation, or like you said, bring your own. I can tell you were wearing blush in the epics, but it should have a tad more color to it - maybe a slightly mauve-y pink. And the eyes should stand out a bit more. You're so pretty so you don't need much, but a few changes and it'll look amazing!

You girls are the best! Thanks Yesenia- so you think I should scrap the original artist or just make suggestions? Not sure if the other salon that's literally down the block is available!

I would ask for another trial and express your concerns, about the smell and sparkle dept! I love your make-up, the natural look. But you can still have a bit of a more dramatic look while still keeping the natural feel. Good Luck, I would give your current m/u artist another chance.

call the other salon and see if they have the date open. you never know! they may still be available. no harm in calling. and i agree with everyone else, if the smell is enough to make your FH say something now, you do not want him thinking about it or commenting on the day of.

wait, did i miss your epic post!? beautiful pic!

you look so pretty in the MU trial pic, but I think if you add a bit more intensity to the eye color, but more blush, and some shine on the lips, it will really make the look. that is, if you feel comfy with adding a bit more. i think it can still look very natural if done right.

Honestly, I think she did a nice job on your makeup so I don't think you necessarily have to scrap her completely... I would still check if the salon near your mom's house is available - if so, do a trial with them; if not, just do a second trial with your original MU artist and request the changes. It's going to look great!!!

I wish I could do that cuz I LOVE Mac...but the nearest MAC counter isn't close enough...if it was at Sunrise Mall, sure! But I really don't want to travel much further. Thanks though! I really wish I could use them...love their colors.

Thanks everyone for your advice! I knew it needed something...and you girls sure helped me figure it out!

First, I think the trial looks very natural and you look great. Second, if it makes you feel better, I booked my MU in February and just this past weekend my FH decided to mention he thought I looked like a painted, cheap hooker. Nice right? He couldn't have mentioned that he felt that way BEFORE I signed a contract?

Where are you getting ready? Maybe I can think of salons in your area. But, FYI, Macy's is in the Sunrise Mall and I believe they have a Mac counter. Huntington definitely does but I'm not sure how far that is for you. It's probably only a 15 minute ride from Sunrise.

First off girl, you're naturally beautiful!!!

But I do understand what you are saying about your makeup. Although it's beautiful and natural, I do see that adding more of SOMETHING may make a difference. You want to feel 'different' in a georgous way on your wedding day! The girls have given you lots of great advice though........

I am like you......I LOVE MAC makeup. My artist was from there and their colors are so amazing......

Everything will work out in the end!

I could have sworn they didn't have a MAC counter in Macy's...but then again, I haven't been there in ages now that I'm in NJ. Thanks! I just remember being annoyed that they didn't have one for such a long time and I had to run to Roosevelt Field.

Sorry about your FH! BOYS!

If you dont LOVE it, def. get a new trial. I went through the same thing, then I tried a different vendor and I LOVED it!! The first was ok, but I just didn't feel like it really popped like I wanted it to. Good Luck!

Re: Doubting my makeup choice...and I'm practically a month away!

Woohoo! Girls, the other salon literally down the block from my mom is available! I have no idea why but I have a great feeling about this!! I feel bad cuz I really liked the original m/u artist....but I kinda felt I rushed into it anyway.

Yeeeaa! Can't wait to have a trial!!! Won't be for another week and a half but I'll get to it! Woohoo!!

Thanks everyone!! All of your comments are so helpful- and I'll mention them when I go for the trial.
