Re: Dove release???
I was thinking about the butterflies too, but I saw it in my friends wedding and didn't work out that great... The butterflies were in a box when she open the box the butterflies didn't come out, she had to shake the box for them to fly out.. When a few flew out they went to the ground, after a little while they flew away... Most of the butterflies stayed in the box... This is why I'm leading towards doves... I'll call on my lunch break.. If you call before I do, let me now..

Re: Dove release???
We did it; it was so pretty and there was a beautiful reading that went with it. We used Macy from White Wings NY (a vendor here) and I can't recommend her more. We chose a simple package but you can choose from a few. I think we paid $350 but it was worth it. I'm not on here too much but you can FM me if you want.
I'm getting even more excited now that i know some one has used the same company, and it worked out great....the butterflies have been pricing from $150-$225, $350 is perfect! especially since everyone will actually see the doves, and they're definite to fly out THANKS!

Re: Dove release???
Douglaston is right on the Nassau County border....I wonder if they'll consider it Queens and say no.
I think its really nice but my fear was the birds pooping on the guests.
They're trained not to poop after they leave the basket..
WOW! In that case... go for it!

Re: Dove release???
I looked into this...but FH wasn't going for it...he said that we spent too much already
but the one thing I did learn in my research is that there are different types of doves...and only certain kind know how to find their way back home....and that they can only find their way during day light....so just make sure you ask alot questions to verify that the birds will be safe.

Our birds were trained to fly home, but it was definitely the question all the guests had: What happened to them???? Our groomsmen joked about the birds b/c our receiving line took forever and one of our GM kept coming up to us going, 'The pigeons are getting restless. Come on, already!' So funny.

Re: Dove release???
I watched a show about releasing them. They are trained to return home and they will only do it during certain times of the year-weather permitting. Supposedly the wind can cause them to go off course along with storms and other bad weather. The bird handlers consider them family and wont do it unless they KNOW they are going to be able to fly home.

I know that a normal person would consider them family...I just want to make sure that no one uses someone who is just in it for the $$ and doesn't care about the birds.
I did speak with one of the vendors on this site...she actually answered alot of questions and concerns I had about the Doves saftey...and I know she loves her birds...but not everyone is like that....that is the only reason I mentioned earlier to make sure that if you do decide on the dove release make sure that the owner/trainer cares about the birds safty.
