My ceremony is scheduled for 3:30 but my reception does not start until 8pm. We have a lot of guests coming from upstate and California and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestion as to what I can have them do in the in-between time. TIA!

Re: Down time between ceremony and reception
Do either of your parents live nearby?
We thought we were going to have a huge gap between our ceremony and reception (we moved the ceremony to the chapel instead of the main church so we could have it start later instead).
If we went with the large gap, my parents were going to have people back to their house for drinks (basically just soda / ice tea / etc.)
With a really big gap, though, that might be too much...

Re: Down time between ceremony and reception
What's the travel time between locations? We have about a half hour travel time (with no traffic). So my parents are gonna have everyone back to their house for coffee and pastries. And then they can all leave from their for the courtesy hour.

It's going to be about an hour travel time between the ceremony and the reception...more if there is a lot of traffic (it's on a Friday)

Re: Down time between ceremony and reception
Just a few ideas (some have already been thrown out there)
Someone's house (friends, family) Hospitality suite at the hotel Hand out a list of nearby attractions (shopping, restaurants, bars, parks, museums, beaches, etc ...) at the church
But for the most part, people will take care of themselves. 6 out of the 8 weddings I went to this past year have had large gaps, and we usually just go to our hotel rooms, order some food and have a few drinks.

Re: Down time between ceremony and reception
we had about 2 hours between ceremony and reception- my aunt had people back to her place for mimosa and pastry. then, people left at their leisure to go to the reception hall.
people will find something to do.
u figure by the time the ceremony is over it is 5 - maybe your oot guests will go to the hotel and change and then relax a bit and then go to the reception.
