Now, I'm not an Oprah fan, but I do know that Dr. Phil became popular because of her. Does any good come out of his show? Does he actually help people? Or is he riding Oprah's coat tails as long as he can?

Re: Dr. Phil
I don't know...he seems so wacky to me and his 'get real' advice doesn't work for people with real problems who need sound advice and therapy.

Re: Dr. Phil
The few times I've been able to catch his show people seemed genuinely helped. I agree that his 'get real' approach may not be helpful to every individual though. What do you dislike about Oprah?

Just because I'm not a fan of hers doesn't mean I 'dislike' her - I don't even know her! I just think that her show is overrated. I may be in the minority, but just like any other celebrity, she's got fans and non-fans. I'm not a fan. That's that!

She can run the universe if she gives me a car and I don't have to pay the taxes on it. OR if my book gets published and she puts in on her list so that I can have a best seller.

That's true. Everyone's entitled to their opinions. All celebs have their fans and non-fans.

Re: Dr. Phil
i think Dr. Phil makes some good points - but unfortunately, the majority of people on his show seem to be incredibly stupid and can't figure easy problems out on their own.
and sometimes, he does take himself too seriously.

I guess that answers the question - Dr. Phil is totally just an Oprah cling on - people can't even think about him without exclaiming their love for Oprah

Re: Dr. Phil
I love Dr. Phil, obviously people with serious problems cannot be helped within 45 minutes and he sets up therapy for those people if they agree to go for it. Sometimes the show is a little crazy, but that makes me love it more.

Re: Dr. Phil
A few years ago when DH (then boyfriend) and I broke up and I was doing theatre literally in the middle of nowhere Missouri I bought Dr. Phil's first book. I found it to be demeaning and worthless for me. I wasn't looking to be talked (or written) down to. I was looking for help dealing with where I was in life and finding a new direction. The only thing that I got from that book was to not ever listen to Dr. Phil.
ETA: Not a fan of Oprah either.

I am a mental health therapist and currently doctoral student in counseling, I HATE him--to me he is an embarrassment to the field.

Re: Dr. Phil
I'm not an Oprah fan myself and I always think of Dr. Phil and Oprah together, so I've never even wanted to watch his show. Plus his voice annoys me.
