This might be a really stupid question but how do dress alterations work if your dress has lace on the bottom of it??? If the dress needs to be made shorter how do they do it without messing up the lace??? Or do you just get shoes to work with the length of your dress??

I think they may take it up at the waist (if you have a seam there) or just move the lace up.

I asked this question to my consultant today (I was trying accessories on with my dress). She said depending on the dress, they will actually remove the lace at the bottom, take it up, and then put the lace back on.

the dress i ordered was pre measured and will be precut - 'hollow to hem' but it depends on the dress & maker

I heard you should buy your shoes before starting alterations...this way the seamstress knows how much to take off from the bottom of your gown if it needs shortening at all with the shoes
