Dress Anxiety!!!

Dress Anxiety!!!

Hey Girls!

I was hoping someone out there can help me calm down. This is gonna be a long one lol So I went dress shopping with my mom and I told her right away ' I want a mermaid gown , lace, strapless'. I had to lay it on the table because my mother likes to take charge and make her own mind up. Anyway, I tried on about 6 gowns and we both cried etc.. They were all pretty and everything I wanted but then.... In the corner of my eye , spotted a ginormous poofy cinderella looking dress with a hint of lady Gaga lol It was so different. My mom made me try it on and holy cow I was like 'WOW'. Thats the only way I could explain how I felt. So I got on the phone and called my cousin. She came in and was shocked. She said it was gorgeous and majestic but wanted to know if this was really my decision or my mothers because she knows how she gets. So I tried the other pronovias (mermaid, strapless lace) dress on and it just seemed so plain after the other one . I was so upset because I didnt know what I wanted. I didnt know if iwas being convinced that I liked the dress or I really did love it. THe dress is a statement and I kind of feel weird being the center of attention lol Although it is my wedding day so I guess in some ways that is unavoidable. My mother puts down some money for a deposit.... I could not sleep all night. The next day I went back to the boutique, the designer of the gown happened to be there and she helped me try the dress on again. As soon as I put it on I got that 'WOW' feeling again! But now I keep watching all these stupid wedding shows and looking at all these magazines and im having anxiety I picked the wrong dress!! I can't even pick out a pair of socks, how am I supposed to pick a dress, the dress a year in advance!!!! I just feel like maybe I rushed into things because I only tried on 6 gowns and I went from wanting mermaid, lace and strapless to.... poofy, diamonds and straps lol!!! Anyone else feel like this or can share some advice??? Sorry I know that was holy canoli long!

Re: Dress Anxiety!!!

i think the fact that YOU were the one who noticed it, and you got the wow factor immediately....and then again when you tried it on for a second time...gives you a pretty good idea that it's the right dress for you. who cares what you originally wanted? what did you know about wedding dresses before you'd tried any on?? you will look gorgeous and you will feel beautiful, and that's what's important. and the best part is you won't have to pick out socks for the wedding day!! :)

Re: Dress Anxiety!!!

just relax. its a big purchase and you will feel like that-but theres going to be a lot of them to be made for with weddings and you dont want to loose too much sleep over each one.
thats why you try on dresses because you never until you try it on. sounds like you made a good choice!!

I think that we've all been stressed out about our dresses one time or another...if you get that 'feeling' when you put it on though, that's 100% your dress :).

I think that if you look at yourself and say 'wow' it's a good choice. Girls on the dress shows change their minds all the time. What you think will look good on you may not! It okay if it's not what you originally wanted!!

YOU'RE the one that saw the dress first.......YOU'RE the one that said 'wow'.............that was YOU, not your mom

BELIEVE me..........those wedding shows (esp. say yes to the dress) can definitely make you second guess yourself. I've been second guessing my dress decision a lot lately, because it's organza and not satin. And I've been asking myself if maybe I should've gotten satin, and maybe a sweetheart neck.

Well guess what..........I went today to try on MY gown....not the sample, but MY gown.....it came in yesterday........and I LOVE IT all over again! It's perfect and I don't know how I doubted myself to begin with!

And believe me also when I say, you're not the first bride to end up wearing a gown completely opposite of what you thought you wanted

I don't think you should be nervous. I fell in love with the first dress I tried on. When I put it on, I just got that feeling. I have tried on many more dresses, but I keep thinking of that one. I'm actually going back next week to put a deposit down. The point is....you got that feeling when you tried it on. It's the dress that you would keep thinking about. I don't think it matters how many dresses you try on--you would still go back and think of that one (that's what happened to me). Be confident in your decision

Re: Dress Anxiety!!!

I totally went from wanting something plainer (and trying on 70 dresses in the process!) to trying on this one dress with tons of sparkle and poof and deciding that was the one! I was shocked and have second guessed it a million times... but the truth is, it sounds like you got that WOW factor both times and you had seen the dress to begin with, so it sounds like 'the one!' I stopped watching 'say yes to the dress' because every time I would see a plainer dress look stunning on someone I would second guess myself, lol. You can drive yourself crazy, or you can have some faith in yourself that you chose the right dress, and you deserve a little glam on your wedding day! Congrats!

Re: Dress Anxiety!!!

i agree with all the others. i started thinking i would want one style and am not on the hunt for something completely different.

i think a lot of us see pictures of dresses and then they look completely different on us. i mean we all have different body shapes.

i'm still waiting for the WOW but.. i'm glad you found it! go get it!

Re: Dress Anxiety!!!

If it is any consolation, when I picked out my gown and put the deposit down, that night at 2am I woke up sweating, had a real panic attack- like the kind where you can't breathe and think you're having a heart attack. (usually I can talk myself out of going that far in a panic attack). I woke up FH and kept the poor guy up all night and couldn't even describe the dress to get his opinion. I had it down to two dresses and I was afraid I picked the wrong one. But in the light of day, I thought about it and the one I went with was the right one. Sometimes what you think you want, is just not the 'one'. Go with your gut.
