Dress Fitting #1......VERY upset....

So last night I had my first dress fitting...

First I was nervous that they would mess the dress up. I had taken the bottom of one dress and the top of a another and sort of messed w/the bead work a little.

But it came out perfect. THAT was the only good thing...

When I tried it on, it almost fell off of me...It was sooo big on top-i almost started to cry hysterically.

Originally when I had ordered the dress, I told the lady I didnt want to wear a bra, I would just sew the cups in, bc strapless bras and me arent friends. So she said fine.

Then last night, after seeing how big my dress was, the lady said I needed to wear a strapless bra-which I do NOT want to do ..its goin to annoy me the whole day.

I took pics but I wont even post them bc the top is SOO big and i look ridiculous.

Re: Dress Fitting #1......VERY upset....

Listen to me...When I went in July 05 for a try on of my dress, it was HUGE & I was so upset!!!! The strapless did help me a lot but if you are uncomfortable with the bra, you need to definately do something!!!! I am not sure what other options you have

Re: Dress Fitting #1......VERY upset....

Hey, there,

Don't fret! It's only the first fitting! They can fix that it is too big. I have to say though, if you have boobs, sometimes you can't go without a bra. They will need to make the dress REALLY really tight, that's how I did it. I almost couldn't breathe and on the day of, I was panicking because no one could zip it up but it worked once we got it zipped - nothing moved and jigged. Thank god I had an ultra strong zipper. You just have to make sure there is no back fat if you do this. My BM, though, she had a dress and didn't wear a bra and halfway through the day, she started sagging because the material does give out a little. (Sort of like wearing jeans, they stretch out at the nees.) Luckily, she did her photos first but then she had to keep pulling up her dress and her boobs were really saggy by the end of the night.

Re: Dress Fitting #1......VERY upset....

Jeanine!

Holy mother of god... That is my wish... For me to walk in Bridal reflections & swim in my dress at my first fitting. Why you ask? Because I told my bridal consultant that I intended on losing 15 pounds. Dont worry Jeanine... Its only your first fitting. Believe me.. these people are professionals so they should know how to take the dress in WITHOUT having to make you wear a bra. If they insist.. demand it YOUR WAY. If they still insist..l take it elsewhere. I know how you feel about strapless bras though. Unfortunately, some would say that I was blessed in the chest area, although I personally HATE them, there would be no way on this green earth that I would get away with not wearing a bra at all.

Re: Dress Fitting #1......VERY upset....

Mine was really big too, and the seamstress took it a few times until it fit perfectly. My dress had a lot of beading on the top, and it wasn't affected at all.
I hate strapless bras too - but I wore one of those longline-bustier type things. I didn't even know it was there until the very, very end of the day - I'm talking after the wedding and a few hours into the bar afterwards. You will be so oblivious to everything that day, it won't even matter. It would be worse to be having to pull up the dress the entire time!

Re: Dress Fitting #1......VERY upset....

Oh, you poor thing! Don't worry, though, it is all going to work out. Seamstresses, I swear to god, are like little magicians. A couple of months ago I had to order a BM dress over the phone for an OOT wedding, and because I couldn't come in, they ordered based on my largest measurement. Even though I told them the dress was going to be HUGE, they insisted. So it comes in, and I could fit myself and two other bridesmaids in the damn dress with me. I was a wreck but I took it to a seamstress and she worked her magic and somehow, remade the dress. If there was hope for me (you should have seen this dress) there is definitely hope for you.

There has to be a way to sew cups into the gown, especially if they told you that would be fine from the beginning. I would insist on it if that is the way you know you will be more comfortable during the day. Once the gown fits closer to your body, I don't see why it would be an issue.

I'm sorry you had a tough time, but we promise you it will all work out in the end. You're going to be gorgeous!!!!!

Re: Dress Fitting #1......VERY upset....

My seamstress is giving me cups and sewing in my strapless bra so I don't have to worry about hte bra shifting or moving around. And if you get a long line bra it doesn't bother you as much as a regular strapless, because it doesn't move anywhere.

Hope this helps.

Re: Dress Fitting #1......VERY upset....

hey there...i just had my first fitting and my dress was WAY too big too. i'm convinced they ordered the wrong size because i lost 5 lbs, not 50. but that's what seamstresses are for. they'll fix it and you'll look beautiful!

Re: Dress Fitting #1......VERY upset....

Mine was huge on me too and the only reason it stood up is because of all the beading on the bodice.. I wouldn't worry about it, it can be taken it.

Re: Dress Fitting #1......VERY upset....

i'm worried about my dress falling dow too. i have a 'plan b' -- with the left over hem i'm having a strap made that buttons into the top of my dress, sorta like a halter. i really don't want to have to fight to keep it up all night, so if it becomes a problem, i'm going to button in the strap.

Don't worry the seamstress can fix it! They took mine in to much and they can still fix it. Hope everything works out.

Re: Dress Fitting #1......VERY upset....

Aww I’m sorry to hear that it didn’t go well. But if it makes you feel any better, my first fitting was a disaster, the dress was so huge on me specifically at the top. I could literally get in and out of my dress with out unbuttoning it. At the end it all worked out. I did have to have 4 fittings. I had bought a bustier which they sowed into the dress, then they also sowed some cups into it since I didn’t quite fill out the dress.

How did you leave it off with the seamstress. I say express your concern to her and make sure that when she pins you up it is the way you wanted, I know I had to keep telling my seamstress “tighter, tighter” because only I could feel how big the dress was on me.

Anyway good luck, and don’t stress over it ,I know easier said then done. Just make sure you get your point across to them, so that your next fitting will go better.

Re: Dress Fitting #1......VERY upset....

Oh no! Please don't worry. My FSIL was married last June and her dress was WAAAAYYY too big on her as well. They were able to fix it with no issue and she looked gorgeous. You will look absolutely amazing at your wedding and you will have the time of your life! Please don't be upset!

Re: Dress Fitting #1......VERY upset....

All I can say is TRY not to WORRY. Every fitting I've had has been disastrous. I was so upset with the last one, that I literally left work to go have it fixed. A hollow to hem measure went from too long to too short, and everythign else in between. Needless to say, the dress is going to be beautiful, and so will yours, and so will you!!

Re: Dress Fitting #1......VERY upset....

aww hang in there!! I felt the EXACT same way. My dress was ordered and when i went to the seamstress 3 weeks ago and put it on, i was soo freaked out b/c it was HUGH, i mean falling down, too long, looked ridiculous, Plus i also didnt want to wear a bra, so she said dont worry i will take it in, hem it and sew cups, the next two weeks i was so scared of how bad my dress was going to be, b/c i ddint think that the dress would be the same after ALL alterations. well i go to the my 2nd fitting and it fit!!! She did it, i was so happy and relieved, it still was slightly big on top but then we realized there was a an inside strap to hold me up and once that was buttoned i was thrilled. So...don't worry, seamstresses can do it!!! I am sure it will turn out beautiful!!
