Dress Fittings and Losing Weight

Dress Fittings and Losing Weight

Hey girls!

So I'm a little stressed. I have my first fitting June 25 (wedding date is August 15) and I've been losing weight steadily the past few months but still would love to lose as much more as I can before the wedding.

My bridal salon told me that after my first fitting I can't lose any more weight. According to them, 'it's not fair to the seamstress' if I were to have her start the fitting, and then lose more weight, and then she has to do it again. I get that it's a lot of work, but isn't that what I'm paying them for?

She said if I DID lose weight, they might have to charge me extra for their additional work. I totally get that, but it's absolutely worth it to me to spend an extra $200 if it means I get to be 5-7 pounds thinner at my wedding.

Am I being crazy? Should I just maintain after the first fitting? I already asked and they said that the absolute first thing that has to be done is taking it in, so we can't make that the last thing, and they didn't seem like we should push it off at all.

Has anyone had experience losing weight after the fitting and having to have it taken in again??

TIA!

That's tough because the closer you get to your wedding you might lose a little more just because of your nerves. At least that is what my friend told me when she got married. If you don't mind paying the extra than I say go for it. It's really your call and how you want to look on your special day. I think either way you are going to look fabulous :)

I was under the impression that taking the dress in was the last part of the fitting, since many people do loose weight. Usually the 1st fitting is length, bustle, etc. maybe I am wrong. I'm calling about my first fitting tomorrow since I just got the msg that my dress came in. What salon are u using for alterations?

This problem is that they can't properly do the length until the dress is taken in. Once it's taken in, the hem will be affected.

I don't think that 5 pounds would significantly impact the fit of your dress anyway. I have always heard 10 pounds is a size. 5 pounds is probably the perfect amount because it will make you feel your best but i don't think anyone else would truly notice, to be honest, including your seamstress.

But IMO, now you get the free ticket to enjoy being engaged. Go out with FH once a week for dinner and drinks and talk about your excitement. I know I should be crashing dieting now that I am a month out, but I am finding myself wanting to just be happy and celebrate these days, and i don't necessarily think that should be stifled!

Ask your seamstress how much 'give' there will be in your dress. Plus if you have a corset back then it can just be tied tighter where 5 lbs won't be a big deal.

I would only agree to pay them a set amount for alterations no matter how much weight you lose or gain before they start any alterations..they would have to cap the total dollar amount..like not to exceed $250 for example..if they have to take it in and do more work so be it like you said that's what you are paying them for..if not take your alterations elsewhere ..alterations by Gina in deer park is excellent but she is expensive..but I wouldn't rule that out if they want to play this game with you
