Dress Help!!!

Hey ladies...i need some help! I am going to start looking for my gown within the next 2-3 weeks. I want to wear a strapless gown. Right now I am a size 14. I have about 15 months until my wedding. I just started going to the gym and am in the process of getting a personal trainer. I would like to lose atleast 40 pounds before the big day. BUT my questions are these....1) If i pick a dress now and then they have to take it in alot...will it ruin the dress?? 2) What about undergarments,...do i have to go get them before I start looking for dresses...even though the ones i get now most likely wont be the ones i wear for the wedding. Im sooo confused!! Honestly I dont even wanna start looking. :( Im getting stressed!! Girls HELP!!!!

Since you have 15 months, and you're concerned about losing weight, then I would wait about 2 months before looking for your gown to allow you to lose some weight. From what I'm told, the most a dress can be taken in is 2 sizes, 3 tops depending on the gown.

The longest a gown takes to come in is a year, and that is only the more higher end designers. Most on average take about 4-8 months to come in.

As for undergarments, they usually provide you with one to try the dresses on. You will not need the undergarment that you will wear for your wedding day until your dress comes in and you start going for fittings.

Relax!! You have some time to play with. I would search the websites now for styles you want. In 2 months time you can easily lose 10-20 lbs and then go searching for a dress!!

I was told the dress can be taken in 3-4 sizes... any more then that will ruin the dress! You can always order it one size smaller and then you'll HAVE to loose the weight!

You definitely do not need to buy under garmetns now - you can wait until your dress comes in, and then be sure you have the right ones for your first fitting.

If you can, put off your dress search as long as possible, so you're as close to the size you'll be at your wedding as you can.

I was really sweating the whole process myself, but once I started looking, I had so much fun, and foud the dress in no time!

Good Luck and Have Fun!!

My sister did the same thing. Went looking for a dress while trying to lose weight. She actually lost around 60 pounds. When the dress came in, it couldn't be altered AT ALL. She had to take the floor sample of the dress. The bridal shop would only order a dress in the size that she was when she ordered it (22) - at the time of the wedding she was a size 12.

My engagement period will be about 10 months from the time I got my ring until my wedding day. I ordered my dress in May for my February wedding and they told me I had plenty of time. I would wait a few months before you order anything especially if you are losing weight.

I would wait to start dress shopping for a while. Just to put things in perspective, my wedding is in 8 months and I haven't ordered my dress yet. I know I am not ordering a $7,000 dress, so whatever I find will arrive in six months. Relax, you have time.

You should definitely wait! I would start looking in about 4 to 5 months. See how much you loose by then. The longest I was told a dress takes to come in is 12 months. You have plenty of time.

I think she meant 12 weeks not months
