Dress issues

Dress issues

I've been bringing all of my clothes to this one dressmaker for as long as I can remember.

When I brought my dress in 3 weeks ago for alterations, I also brought two pants that needed the cuffs hemmed. She charge me more than I had expected. Then she charged me more than I expected for my dress.

I went back the next week to drop off a bathing suit that needed the sides pinched in on the bottom and to pick up the pants. She charged me more than I expected to take in the bikini bottom and then the pants were too short.

I should have known.

My wedding is in 10 days. I picked up my dress this past Saturday. They did a terrible job. Thank goodness all I needed was a hem, a bustle, and buttons sewn on the back. The buttons look OKAY, but not great. Some of them have a yellowish tint. HELLO? Didn't you see that when you put it up against white satin?

And the bustle... it's terrible. My mom (who used to make clothes for me all the time and in fact she made most of my prom dresses) is going to redo it but she doesn't want to redo it until after the ceremony, back at the bridal suite at the reception hall bc she doesn't want loops and buttons to show while walking down the aisle.

I'm not happy. I want the bustle that David's Bridal showed me when I bought the dress. My tailor did not make it look that way.

I don't know what to do. I told my mom I'm really uncomfortable not having a bustle until then, so she is going to come over this w/e to take a look at it (and she's going to replace the yellowish buttons), but I'm just so disappointed. I know my bustle is heavy, and thus difficult, but come on.

To top it off, my seamstess didn't press the dress. How do I do that? Do I take it to a dry cleaner? WHAT DO I DO??!?!? It needs to be pressed!!!!!

Yikes ! I'm sorry. How did the seamstress you've known for so long and worked with for so long all of a sudden start doing crappy work?

Re: Dress issues

It's the strangest thing. All of a sudden there is a new lady there. My dressmaker now consults this new woman on everything. She won't give you a price unless she talks to the new lady. The new lady is the one who pinned my dress, etc. I don't know which one actually worked on it. When I went back on Saturday, it was my old dressmaker only. She had to redo the hem too, and cut the crinoline underneath, all while I was there, which leads me to believe she didn't work on my dress to begin with. It's like this other lady is taking over. I'm so disappointed. I just printed out an article online from The Knot on how to press my dress myself.

I feel really sorry for you bit don't let it ruin your day! It will work out fine but in the meantime - I would find a new dresmaker!

Tell me about it. I'm so disappointed. One of my BM is using her too - I have to see if she picked up her dress yet. She's been going to her for years as well and also noticed the drastic difference.
