Dress Question

Dress Question

Hi Everyone....After lurking around for a few weeks, I finally decided to join. Everyone on this board seems so helpful and nice.

I have a question that I've been dying to ask someone.

5 years ago, I was engaged to my high school sweetheart. We broke it off afew months after we got engaged. I had already bought my wedding dress - which I still have. At the time, this was my dream dress - and I still love it!

Now I am engaged to the man of my dreams. I already have the dress. Is it bad luck to wear it? Should I tell him that I already have it?

Also, though I love the dress, there is one part of the dress that I no longer love. It has a GORGEOUS cathdral train that has a floral cut-out pattern throughout it. The pattern is beaded along all edges. It's stunning. However, the neckline is rather dated. (in my opinion) it is an off the shoulder dress with approximately 4 inch wide sleeves. Does this sound dated to you girls? I'm not crazy about the sleeves but I see no point in going out and spending a lot of money if i already have the dress. Do you think a good seamstress would be able to change the width of the sleeves to an inch or so? (The sleeves have a beaded lace on them)

THANKS!

Welcome!!!

I don't believe in superstitions like that... wear the dress - you LOVE it... bless you for fitting into still!

And yes, a seamstress would definitely be able to do something with the sleeves!

Re: Dress Question

I don't know much about sewing so I have no idea how alterations would work but I think if it is your dream dress and if you don't associate it with anything bad, you should use it. Just think really hard about it first. I wouldn't want you to regret it.

Re: Dress Question

I would definitely wear the dress still, especially if you get it altered...I think a seamstress should be able to convert that into a strapless dress or a dress with spaghetti straps...

welcome!! I think once you alter it it becomes a new dress...for the new you! If you love the dress you're going to shop around trying to find a dress that compares and you may never find it. have it altered to the way you want it.

WELCOME TO THE BOARDS! also i agree.. as long as you dont associate that dress with your ex and you have no problems wearing it.. if you still love it... why not wear it????? I'm sure a seamstress can fix anything you're not happy with!! I'm sure it will be beautiful!

Welcome!!! I think that if you love the dress you should wear it. A seamstress could definitely alter the top if you want. The dress looks very pretty!

Re: Dress Question

welcome and congrats!

i think u should get the dress altered (sorry i dont have any suggestions as to who can do it) but not bc it looks outdated (i think it looks beautiful!) but bc if u get it altered i think it will make it more like a brand new dress, u wont be wearing the same exact dress that u intended to wear with the other man

Welcome!!

I do not think it is bad luck to wear the dress as long as you didn't wear it before. Also, a good seamstress should definitely be able to alter the
sleeves..

let us know how it goes!!! :)

Re: Dress Question

Why not try to sell the dress and use the money to buy one you'd be really happy with.

Re: Dress Question

wear the dress. If you wore it to your first wedding it would be different. But IMO it really is pretty and doesnt look outdated but if you want to alter it a bit do it. GOod luck
