I'm sorry if this comes out a little convoluted, I'm trying to explain it the best I can.
I'll start by saying I have a lot of shoe issues...I have bad knees and flat feet and I really want to feel comfortable on my wedding day, so my shoes are isotoners and have 1.5' wedge heels. The dress that I chose can only be ordered up to 3' shorter than the sample size. My problem is with the shoes that I chose I would need the dress to be 4.5' shorter. According to my salon (Lillette's) I have 2 options:
1) They can order the petite size (which is the 3' shorter) and then the alterations dept can hem my dress to the size that I need. My only issue with this is that my dress has a lace overlay, and I'm really worried that it'll get messed up. They did have the head of alterations come up to look at my dress and she said it would be no problem and seemed very sure that they would do a good job. The cost of the hem would go up from $125 to $200 (but cost is not really an issue)
2) I can buy 3' heels and deal with my discomfort, but know for sure the dress would not get messed up.
I am leaning towards option 1, if only because I really want to be comfortable on that day...but I am still worried. What would you do if you were me?

I'm all for comfort. I would have Lillette's hem it.

my gown has beading on the bottom so they will be doing hem to hollow so the bottom doesnt' get messed up

if you can't wear the heels go for option 1 - I am sure that they will do a good job - maybe you should start the alteration process a little early, so you know the dress is the way you want it to be!
I would go with option 1. I would think they shorten dresses all the time. If the lady seemed confident, I wouldn't worry about it.

Same for me. It basically means that when the designer cuts the material for the dress, they cut it to your specific height. I'd ask Geri if this is an option for you. Otherwise, I'd go with the first choice. You don't want to be dealing with pain in your feet and/or knees all day.

Its not She said every Maggie dress is different and that some can be taken up to 6', some 8' and some 3' or 4'...and that my dress can't be taken up any more than 3'...otherwise I'd get a hollow to hem.

Can't really answer this Q bc I'm getting a hollow-to-hem, custom fit gown... but I think it is something you really need to think about.

Re: Dress question - What would you do?
my dress is the same way & they did the hallow to hem also but could they possibly hem it from the waist? kind of take it up? that was another option they had given me for another dress if you dont want to loose any embelishment on the bottom? I know every dress is different so they will tell you if that wouldn't look right. I would go with the hem suggestion they give you. They do this for a living & know what will look best :) good luck!

Re: Dress question - What would you do?
i would def let lilettes do it, i dont think they would risk tellingyou so confidently that it wouldnt be a problem for them if they werent sure they could do it, ya know? and you definitely DONT want to be uncomfortable the day of your wedding otherwise you really wont enjoy it fully so i would go with shoes that are most comfortable to you and trust lilettes

Dont be uncomfortable!!! no matter how much you try to convince yourself that its a comfy shoe, youll be fine, etc etcf. dont risk it!! Ive been in this situation too many times and wouldnt want myself or anyone else to be in that situation on their wedding day.
Let Lilletes do it. Im sure it will be fine and as you said she seemed very confident in it. If I was in your place, I would have Lilletes do it.

Thank you girls!!! I was worried that I was crazy for feeling like that was the way to go but you've all made me feel so much better!! I'll definitely order it petite and just let them hem it...3' heels would kill me!
