Re: Dress Shopping
I would recommend bringing a strapless bra and wearing a nice pair of underwear, because more than one sales person will see you in them!
Most likely the dress won't be your size or length so I wouldn't worry about which shoes your wearing. The first time i went i didn't have make up and my hair looked like crap, so every time i looked at myself in a dress, i thought i looked terrible. After that first time, i started wearing a little bit of makeup and fixing my hair!
depending on where your looking depends on the experience. David's bridal is going to be different from The bridal salon in Manhasset.

Re: Dress Shopping
Go with an open mind. Try on a variety of dresses - even ones that you don't think you'll like. That may help you eliminate certain types of dresses. Or you may find that you actually prefer certain types of dresses. You might also want to bring in pictures of dresses that you like.
Keep in mind that some one will probably help you try on the dresses. Therefore, you might want to wear underwear that's not too skimpy. It's not a bad idea to bring a strapless bra, also.

Do go there thinking you will find 'the Dress' with the first few you try on. It may be the case, but if it isnt you may get frustrated. Don't get upset if the one you end up liking isn't exactly what you went looking for either. So many dresses look crappy on hangers, look great on.
Good Luck!

OMG it's so true... Things I hated on the hanger were great on me, and things I loved on the hanger were horrendous! You'll know when you find it.... Oh, and as for shoes, if you're really tall, i'd wear flats, and if you're really short (like me) I'd wear heels - I knew all the dresses would be really long on me so heels helped. Anyway, it doesn't really matter b/c the dresses won't be in your size anyway - but it might help you get a SOMEWHAT better clue.
