Dress shopping!

Dress shopping!

I made appointments for this weekend to go look at dresses for me, but when I called one place and told them what day I was getting married they were like 'You better get moving, you only have 10 months!!'
So my question is, am I going to have a hard time getting a dress because I'm so late in the game? It's funny, these dress stores think I'm a procrastinating bride...they don't know that I just got engaged two weeks ago, and I'm doing the best I can on short notice!!! Ugh! So frustrating!!!

I'm in the same boat as you - newly engaged and hoping to ger married next July!!

You'll find a dress that they can get in time, I am sure! I'm only starting to look next week. I'm sure we'll find something- you DO have enough time!

Happy shopping!!

Re: Dress shopping!

I ordered my dress from David's in Jan '05 and got it at the end of Feb. '05.

Some have long waiting periods, and some don't.

Re: Dress shopping!

I ordered my dress in January and it came in in August..so it does take time and then there is the time they need for alterations. I was told that it can take anywhere btw 8-10 months. I know some designers will do a rush order for you but it will cost more $$$.

I ordered mine at the 6 month mark. It's supposed to get here in December and that still gives 3 months to alter it.

Re: Dress shopping!

I ordered mine last month (Private Label by G) and it's scheduled to arrive late January.

One bit of advice, you may want to lie about your wedding date and give a date that is sooner. Your dress will more than likely arrive at an earlier date that way.

Wow! You're on the early side. I think the target is 8-9 months. (that's when I did mine) You'll be fine!

I ordered my dress in August and it'll be here mid January. A lot of dresses are made overseas now, so it has to pass through Customs....maybe that's what the bridal boutiques are thinking. I would order your dress by the holidays to be safe.

Re: Dress shopping!

Some high end designers can take 9 months or more! But the avaerage designers take 6 months or so.

I ordered my dress from David;s Bridal 2 weeks ago, its supposed to come in Jan 22nd (11weeks)

I am getting married 2 weeks after you and no one has said anything to me when I went dress shopping. I only started looking about 2 weeks ago. They may be making you nervous so that you are quick to order with them. I think you have plenty of time. I want to order by the holidays but I think that I am just being overly cautious.

I'm getting married on May 12 and I don't even have a dress yet!! Well, kinda ...... I ordered a plain dress and was getting alterations done to it, but in the end realized it won't work. Now I'm getting my dress custom made from scratch!

So don't worry, you'll be OK. Just let them know your date and most places will be able to work with you. Also, some offer a rush fee service if needed

Dana,
They are going to show you dresses that are gaurenteed to get there in time. something with like 30,000 beads on it will obviously take a little more time. 10 months is FINE. I ordered mine 11months out and everyone in the store said I was crazy bc that was TOO MUCH time ahead.

No worries, you will have a great time fidning the dress of your dreams. Just remember, be super open minded and try EVERYTHING on. Even if it isnt what you thought you would wear or doesnt look so hot the hanger. Try everything. And have fun with your sisters!

Don't let any place make you feel pressured or uncomfortable........most times they can get a dress as fast as they need to. You are getting married the same weekend as me. I ordered my dress already, but when I did they told me it would take 6 months to come in.......if I needed it sooner they could have found a way

Just relax and find what you want......

Re: Dress shopping!

First of all, congrats on your engagement! I got married in September and didn't order my dress until February (which came in the end of July). I was cutting it very close becasue I think they tell you that you need about 9 months ( just to make sure the dress is in and you can go for your fittings). I would say to try to look for dresses as soon as you can but don't let what one person tells you make you upset

You are just at the time where you should be ordering but no place should give you a hard time nor should you be pressured into buying. Worse case scenario I was told by the shop I am using is that either you buy off the rack or there is a rush fee with some companies.
