I was planning on going to look for dress today. Just to get an idea, I am not ready to buy yet. I have plenty of time. I was wondering if I can just pop into David's Bridal and try on dresses without being pushed into buying something. I really just want to get an idea. does anyone have any other ideas of where to go? I figured David's because I have heard they have a big selection.

Re: Dress Shopping
I bought my dress at david's and didnt need an appointment, however, i am sorry i bought it there. the 2nd time i went in to show someone my dress another salesperson was very rude to me and i hear there alterations arent good. i am bringing my dress to another person to alter (not to davids). i dont mean to tell you what to do, (if you want to go there, please do so) but there are many other places i wish i'd rather have gone to. Happy dress hunting!

Re: Dress Shopping
That is exactly what I did - went to Davids to get some ideas on what looked nice and what didn't - I ended by buying the dress there also but I bring it somewhere else for alterations - they just don't have a good reputation in that dept. When I went the sales ladies were very nice and helpful no pressure - a word of advice is to go as soon as they open mid-afternoon they get packed! Good Luck!

Re: Dress Shopping
I originally went to David's to look at stuff, but liked one dress that I plan to buy saturday on my visit with mom. I will not leave it to davids for alterations, but I had a great experience there last sunday. Basically I came in, they gave me a catalog and asked which dresses I wanted to try on. In the end I tried 6 on, 4 of them fit and I liked them, but one the most, so I plan to buy there. I spoke with the alterations person (Karin Y - see the newlywed board for her contact) and asked about David's dresses. Her opinion is that the dresses are well made, just cheaper fabric, however, she has heard plenty of complaints on service and alterations. So go ahead and browse and buy if you want, just don't alter at davids.

Re: Dress Shopping
DiamondDee- you are obviously a vendor. We have asked several times now to please stop posting on here. I understand you are trying to attract business, but if you ask me, using this as a means to do that is dishonest, so it does not reflect well on you as a vendor. Thank you.

Re: Dress Shopping
Genevieve,
David's is a great place to get an idea about the styles that you like....if you are looking for better service, try not to go on the weekends. I went there on a fluke just to look and fell in love with a dress and bought it on the spot (and it did save me some money) However, I found a private seamstress to do the alterations becuase they have a poor reputation in that department.

Re: Dress Shopping
I went to look today and ended up at Davids - Yes they have a huge selection, but I thought the service was lacking. I ended up finding the rack that contained the size I needed, picking out the dresses I liked, and hauling (because they are not light) them into the changing room. Actually the most helpful person there was the Mary Kay consultant. I wasn't impressed.
