Dress Shopping!!

Going dress shopping this weekend for the first time!! I'm so excited! Going to RK Bridal and Macy's in the city today and then Noveau Bride and Elena's in Merrick and Bridal Reflections in Massapequa tomorrow! YAY!

Any advice for someone who has never tried on a wedding dress?

Dress Shopping!!

Yayyy! So exciting. I actually got my dress from Macy's bridal in the city. My advice to you is each place carries different designers. What I did was search the designers they had and printed out the top ones I liked. That way the sales lady can get an idea of what it is you are looking for and maybe can offer you other dresses that come in a similar style. That was how I was able to pick my dress. Have fun and keep us posted should you say YES to the dress!

Awesome! I just wrote down style numbers... but now I'll print out pictures too in case they aren't familiar with the numbers I give them so they can pick out things in that style. Good idea!

Also I wouldn't have too many people with you. People give their opinion and sometimes its the opposite of helpful when 10 women are giving you 10 different opinions.

Enjoy everything about it and try on things you wouldn't normally, that's how I found my dress :)

Dress Shopping!!

Use your 1st time as a chance to figure out what looks best on you.

I went for the 1st time last week and was overwhelmed with the styles. It allowed me to figure out what I wanted and definitely what I didn't want without being disappointed.

If you can go in with ideas...that's great...just don't be disappointed if they aren't exactly as you had in your head.

Just my opinion.

Dress Shopping!!

I went the first time with my MOH. Just to take the edge off. I hate shopping for myself and my MOH knew I was going to be nervous because I was going with my FMIL because she was buying me my dress. Wouldn't you know I ended up finding my dress the first time I went dress shopping. Go figure! I then made appointments at other places with my FMIL because I know this was something she wanted to do for me. At the end of the day we all agreed with the original dress. Good luck sweetie!

Dress Shopping!!

Have a list of styles you love, but be open to try other things.

Keep your entourage small, let them know to respect your opinion first an if you have questions they can chime in.

Stay true to what look you are going for.

Have fun!!

Don't be afraid to tell your consultant you hate something( this one was hard for me, but remember they will keep pulling the wrong styles if you aren't honest with them)

Dress Shopping!!

I got mine at RK Bridal. As mentioned, keep the entourage to a minimum. My FMIL and MOH came with me and it was enough opinions for me, lol!

Style numbers and pictures are definitely a must! Sometimes they don't always have that particular one, but they can find others.

Also, be willing to try on different styles and go in with an open mind, but also be aware of what you think you want. I went in thinking I wouldn't get a strapless gown and ended up with one (it's amazing what corsets do). I also tried on one dress that actually looked really nice, but I didn't recognize myself getting married in it.

Also be prepared to sweat your butt off getting into the gowns! I had to struggle a little bit to get into some of the sample sizes.

I'm so happy that I could help you have fun! I'm going now to meet my mom and her best friend. We're keeping it pretty small-- just my mom and her friend today, and tomorrow we're adding my FMIL and FSIL and one bridesmaid. I hope that just a small group will make it fun and helpful! I'm SO excited-- I've got my pictures and can't wait to have fun. I'm not thinking about finding the dress today or tomorrow, just seeing what I find and figuring out styles. And maybe I'll find one I love!

I would suggest esp since it is your first time to try on things that you don't think is 'your style' because sometimes you are amazed that you actually fall in love with the dress when it is on you.

Be open minded! I thought I knew what I wanted and ended up with the complete opposite. I knew it was the one when I didn't want to take it off and my mom started crying. Have a great time, enjoy it!

I found my dress!!! I ended up getting it Elena's-- which was such a great place. I'll write up a review of my experiences at all the places. I ended up finding something pretty different from what I thought I'd end up with, but I LOVE it. I didn't think I'd have that 'Say Yes to the Dress' moment, but as soon as I put on my gown I teared up and knew it was THE dress for me. I loved the feeling at Elena's, it felt warm and homey. A lot of other places made me feel like they were selling me on the dress, and they were more interested in finding me a dress I'd love.

yay congrats! i live right by that elenas shop and never thought to look there! i will definitely need to go there now!

They don't have a TON of dresses, so I'd suggest checking out a place or two first to narrow down styles you want. It's a pretty small shop. But the service was so nice and friendly. Nouveau Bride also in Merrick had more options but they were really pushy.
