Dress shopping experience

Dress shopping experience

Hi Ladies!

I thought I would share my Bridal Reflections experience with everyone. I went to the Massapequa salon, as it's just down the block from my house.

Overall, I was really underwhelmed by the experience. I didn't love any dress I tried on. She pulled a ton of dresses, but only about 4 were styles that I was looking for. Even after my entourage and I explained what we did/did not like about the dresses she pulled- she didn't look for others. I understand it's probably overwhelming for her as well. She was very nice, just not as efficient as I'd hoped (maybe bc I had the last appointment of the day, ha).

I had only planned on going to BR and Kleinfeld but I feel like now I have to add more appointments.

Oh, and the opinions of others makes everything even more confusing!! It's almost like you get lost in what YOU want and start focusing on what everyone else thinks is better for you.

So, my first dress shopping experience...underwhelming, eye opening, and unsuccessful! This will definitely NOT be an easy decision.

i'm sorry you had that experience there. mine was great there. I didn't find my dress there but i had a great experience there. I'd try bridal suite of bayshore or wedding saon in manhasset. i had great visits there as well.

I was honestly underwhelmed by my experience there also. My consultant pulled dresses all out of my price range and all but one weren't the silhouette I asked for. When I asked if there were any other dresses like that one, she told me that was the only one she had in mind and didn't pull anything else. I know a lot of ppl have a great experience there so maybe something just got lost in translation between me and my consultant.

I felt the same way at BR in Carle Place. I know lots of girls who loved it there, but I felt a little like she was in over her head. I also believe that the consultants there work off commission, so they're a little less concerned with making the client happy and a little more concerned with making a sale.

I found I had the best and most positive experiences when I went shopping with only one other person, bc my opinion was most prominent. And when I went with my cousin, just me and her, I asked her to not give me her opinion til I had decided what mine was.

Don't get discouraged, and good luck!!

I haven't been dress shopping yet, and I was planning on taking my mom and two sisters (all of whom can be very vocal about their opinions) along with me. Now I'm considering going dress shopping for the first time on my own so that I don't get overwhelmed. Thanks for sharing your experience, hopefully the next ones are better. I'm sure you'll find a gorgeous dress!

I had a similar experience with BR Massapequa. I showed my consultant a picture of the dress I wanted and she pulled the exact opposite type of dress. I wound up getting my dress at Paradise Bridal. Good luck with your dress search!

I agree. Bring only one other important person. When I finally bought my gown, I actually went by myself.

If you want a good experience, I would highly recommend Lillette's in Bellmore. I had a wonderful experience there, even though I didn't buy my gown there. She has a ton of Maggie Sotteros, and a couple of other designers as well.

I had a great experience at Bridal Suite of Bayshore (after a not-great experience at another salon earlier that same day). My consultant really listened when I pointed out things I liked, and she ended up pulling a dress which ended up being the one. Highly suggest checking them out!

Me too I had the same experience at bridal reflections. I had one of the last appointments of the day as well.
I did have great experiences at lilettes. Village bridal. And bridal suite in bayshore
I pretty much knew exactly what I wanted the material and the cut etc.

I had a great experience with Jody, I liked two dresses she picked out but I wasn't in love with any. I would suggest going to Paradise Bridal in Patchogue. I had the best experience there and that's where I got my dress!

It all depends who you have as a consultant. Some bridal consultants are overwhelmed in general when you bring a lot of people. I went to multiple salons and when I got to Bridal Reflections in Carle Place I met Andrea and knew I would go NO PLACE else. She was amazing - fabulous and not pushy. I felt like at other salons I went to they weren't really getting my look that I was asking for and kept showing me dresses that I wasn't even asking to try on. It definitely can be overwhelming, but that is why you keep looking until you get that 'feeling' - thats when you know you are at the right place - and ultimately have found the right dress.

The less people the better! Like you said, the more opionions the harder your decision is going to be.

This is why I went with just my mother after I had ridiculous dress regret! I needed to be in an empty store with a clear head!

When I went for my first dress, there were random people just standing around giving opinions on my dress instead of the person they came with. It was so overwhelming!

I went first to Lilettes where I ended up buying my dress. I bought the first dress I tried on coincidentally. I worked with Carol and she was BEYOND amazing and patient and kind!

I went after to Bridal reflections in CP because I would have lost a deposit i put down if I did. I worked with Andrea and althogh she obviously didn't know I already purchased a dress was beyond helpful and nice. She did pull out dresses above budget but some right on as well. Overall I would suggest Lilettes, it is a smaller place with very very nice woman and they really take the time to listen to you!

I'm sorry about your experience. I haven't gone dress shopping yet, but assumed we were supposed to bring our BM's, MOH and MOB. Maybe I will just ask my mom to come with me. I am indecisive enough on my own without a chorus of opinions. Hope your next appointment is better!

I second Carol at Lillette's... she cried right along with me when I thought I had chosen 'the one' (Maggie Sottero Lorie). She was so great I hugged her as I left the store. It's a shame I didn't get it there. Sandy put a huge dent in our wedding fund, and I didn't have enough for a deposit. Long story short, I did a short trip by myself to DB in Manhattan and picked my dress and paid in full within 1 hour.

Things happen for a reason.

This! Lilette's is seriously wonderful! My best friend got her dress there and our bridesmaids dresses and the whole experience was great! They're really great women to work with too, very helpful! I went there to look at bridesmaids and I don't like being served, I want to get elbow deep in dresses and choose what I like - they totally respected it and left us alone in the room to search and decide for ourselves. Great experiences there!

Good luck on your next shopping experience!

I ended up getting my dress at Macys bridal salon but I had the most wonderful experience at Helens!! It doesn't look like much but the women there are fabulous and are amazing at what they do! Ultimately they couldn't get the Demetrios dress I wanted but if I had decided to go with my second choice I def woulda got it from them. They were awesome!!

ITA with this! Carol was great and pulled dresses I specifically asked to see as well as styles she thought I would like. She actually ended up pulling a dress I'm pretty sure I'll order. She was patient and took time to accessorize the dress I had on so I could get the full picture. Everything she pulled was well under my price range also!
