Dress Shopping in New Jersey?
In a few weeks, my mom, aunt, and I are having a 'spa afternoon' by my aunt's house in New Jersey, and they suggested that we spend the morning dress shopping. It will be my first dress shopping experience! I know so much about LI/NY dress shops from you girls - have any of you been to shops in NJ? I'd hate for my first 'dress experience' to be at some place I choose randomly off the internet that turns out to be small and crummy. TIA!

Re: Dress Shopping in New Jersey?
what part of Jersey?Bridal by Roma (north jersey). google it. Their site is not that great. The place has a pretty good selection. The prices were a few hundred lower than NYC. No tax and no additional alteration fee. I work around there and I ordered my dress there a month ago.

Re: Dress Shopping in New Jersey?
I live in jersey but didn't shop here so I don't really know much about the shops and their selection. If I were to look around here though, what I'd do is go to the website of the dress designer I like alot and search for local places on the site. Hope that helps somewhat!I actually had to do that when I was desperate to find a shop in NJ that had the two dresses I couldn't decide between- no one had both dresses at their shop- it was maddening!!!

Re: Dress Shopping in New Jersey?
I went to a few shops ...- Priscilla of Boston in Short Hills - I got a bridesmaid dress there, and looked at a few bridal gowns. It's a little pricey, but a nice selection. I don't think they cap alterations though - my friend paid $400+ for hers there!!!
- Reba's Brides in North Bergen - I ended up buying my dress here. They have a good selection - James Clifford, Maggie Sottero, etc ... most of the common name dresses. The dress I bought was $300 less than where I saw it on LI, there's no sales tax in Jersey and alterations are free with the exception of a $100-$150 bustling fee.
- The Wedding Store at Liz Clinton - great selection and great service. I almost bought my dress there, and the one I ended up getting was very similar. They carry Maggie Sottero, 2Be, Lazaro, Michelle Roth, Henry Roth, Marisa, Anjolique, Carmela Sutera, Watters Brides ... etc
I also went to some small shop in Hoboken that carried different brands, and maybe designed their own. It was fun just to try them on and get an idea of different designs. Honestly, the best thing to do is just go to any and every shop and try everything on. A lot of girls end up buying something they never thought they'd like.
Good luck and have fun!!!

Bridal Garden!! It's in South Jersey near Cherry Hill. They are so great to work with and have a great selection. No matter where you go, the best thing about buying a dress in NJ is no sales tax!!

I don't know how much your planning on spending on your dress but I have been to the Bridal Garden - they have beautiful dresses but they are expensive. Dresses start at $1500

Re: Dress Shopping in New Jersey?
Thanks for the suggestions, ladies! A lot of the places you mentioned were ones I was considering, but I didn't make any appointments yet because I couldn't tell just from the web sites which ones were worth going to. Now know! thank you so much.Oh, and I figured the 'no sales tax' thing was like NY, where you did have to pay it if your item was over $100 or something. It's SO great to know that there's no tax on any dress at all!

Helen Bohn Bridal in Washington Twp! My MIL got her dress there and they were great to deal with. A friend of the family also got her dress from there. Alterations are included in the cost of the gown.If you plan to go there though, be sure to make an appt.

i went to shop there too... they give you 10% off if you put a deposit down on a dress that day (first time going only) and as mentioned above no tax!!
so you may want to go somewhere else first and then go there... depending on the shopper you are!
saks at short hills as beautiful dresses too..
good luck!!

I guess it depends on who you deal with there.... I got a BM dress for my cousin's wedding from Helen Bohn and the woman we dealt with was a total b!tch!! We had our alterations done elsewhere.
I got my gown at J Bridal in Westwood - Jennifer the shop owner is the SWEETEST!! FH really likes her too! My FMIL and Gram got their gowns there. My sis ordered her BM dresses from there.
HIGHLY recommended!

Re: Dress Shopping in New Jersey?
Wow, I was expecting just a few responses but I got so many! Thanks so much! We'll be in North/Central Jersey, not too far from the Short Hills Mall, so it looks like there are plenty of places for me to choose from. One more question: how far in advance should I book an appointment to go shopping on a Saturday morning? I'm going in 3 weeks - should I rush and make appointments soon, or can I wait another week or two to find out where exactly we'll be?

Re: Dress Shopping in New Jersey?
I would make an appointment almost ASAP. I think 2 weeks in advance would be good, but you never know! Saturdays are crazy in Bergen County because nothing is open on Sundays (blue laws). If you're going to be in the Paramus area of NJ (northern Bergen County) definitely check out J Bridal in Westwood J Bridal website AND Rana Bridal in Englewood Rana Bridal website
I got my gown at J Bridal and my sister got hers at Rana Bridal. Both our gowns were $1500 although they have gowns that go way up in price.
HTH!!

Re: Dress Shopping in New Jersey?
I got my gown from Bridal Garden in Marlton NJ on Route 70. My attendent was great -- but quit
When my gown came in wrong, the manager took over and sent it back and it came back in a month completely fixed. In all, it took about 4-5 mos...and that included sending it back out to be fixed. FM if you want some more details. Welcome New Vendors
