Re: Dress shopping- What to expect?
My only advice, besides having fun with it and wearing easily removeable clothes, is if you have a budget, make sure you specify that before the ladies in the salons start showing you million dollar gowns that you fall in love with and then can't afford. You don't want to get your heart broken!!

Re: Dress shopping- What to expect?
(1) Be willing to try on anything even if you think you will hate it. I tried on a dress because my mom wanted me too, a dress I never would have picked out. Wouldn't you know, that was the one I bought.
(2) Don't let the salesperson push you around. The most famous quote is, 'If you don't buy it right now, it may be discontinued.' That is such a crock.
(3) Bring someone honest with you. Not all salespeople, but some will tell you anything looks good, just to get the sale. Don't be afraid to say that you don't like the dress or you want to think about it.
(4) Bring a clip to put your hair up so you can get the whole effect.
(5) Bring a camera! Not eveyone allows pictures, but some stores do. Sometimes you can even sneak a picture in the fitting room!
(6) Wear clothes that are easy to get in and out of, especially if you are going to a lot of stores.
(7) Have fun!!!! This was my absolute favorite part of wedding planning! I wish I could do it all over again. Enjoy it. You'll feel like a princess all day!

Oooh!! I forgot about budget! Very important. Don't forget you will need to budget in undergarments, a slip, shoes, veil, and headpiece. Subtract this from the budget you are telling the saleslady plus subtract a little more. I found that if my budget was say $1500, they would show me dresses for slightly more, like $2000 and less.

Just enjoy it and don't worry about a thing. My advice to you is not to rush it, take your time!!! Try on things that you wouldn't normally like. So many girls on this site (including myself) ended up with dresses that they never would have picked out of a magazine, but once they had them on...they loved them. You just never know!
HAVE FUN!!!

Stick to your budget! Whatever it is, there is a beautiful dress in your range. And don't let cranky sales assistants ruin a fun experience. Be prepared to look like a princess!

Re: Dress shopping- What to expect?
This info is great! Thanks so much! I have another question: I'm the kind of person who has a hard time shopping with someone hanging over me, is this how they are at bridal shops???

Re: Dress shopping- What to expect?
it depends on where you go. The shops I went to (I went to 3 of them) none of them were pushy. At least I didn't feel that way. I was told at one place that a gown that I liked might get discontinued but that was it for the pressure.

Have a blast with it! Bring pics of dresses you're interested in - or at least styles you think you like. Be honest about your budget. Bring water! Maybe some Tylenol too!

Re: Dress shopping- What to expect?
Another thing..
Take down the names of the designer of the dress and style number and don't order anything until looking to see if you can get it for less on the net!
I love my gown but if I had known then all that I know now, I would have def checked online..

Re: Dress shopping- What to expect?
the girls have pretty much covered it.
Have fun, have an open mind, try on everything (its true you really never know. I always thought I would get a halter type dress and I ended up with an off the shoulder), definatly wear easy to remove clothes, strapless bra, bring water with you (as it gets very overwhelming) maybe a snack or two, and just have a good time.
