so, I haven't started dress shopping yet and I wasn't planning on starting til the spring or summer of 2010, but my mom is really excited to go (i think this will be her fav part of the wedding planning). Her excitement is making me think that maybe I'll start shopping earlier than planned just to try on a few, nothing really serious.
For the girls that have started dress shopping, which stores were nice about your 2011 date and which ones were nasty?

Re: dress shops
I really like the Bridal Suite of Bayshore. I went to Bridal Relfections in Massapequa this past weekend and had a terrible experience. I was dissapointed because everyone says how great it is there, but I waited for 45 minutes and I only tried on 3 dresses. The sales woman told me that she couldnt find anything I liked and that Mermaid style dress I am looking for is not popular.

Lillette's and Bridal Reflections of Massapequa were both nice to me. But at both stores I really think it depends on who you work with. At Lillette's I worked with Gerri and she was very sweet and at BR I worked with Nicole and she was great as well! HTH!

That's strange that they told you that about the mermaid style dress. My consultant at that store actually pulled a few mermaids for me to try on even though that is really not what I am looking for. After trying them on I just told her I was looking more for a-line and she didn't put the mermaid style dresses on me anymore.

Lilette's was very nice... and I second Gerri... definitely try and make the appt. with her of you go there.
You can always go to David's Bridal - never really had a problem with them and that was the first place I went dress shopping which was months ago.

Re: dress shops
I'd recommend Village Bridal in Babylon or Paradise Bridal in Patchogue. Both were SO nice and helpful!
ETA: To answer your second question, lie about your date. LOL! They needn't know the truth. Most places will be snobby once they find out you are so far out from your wedding since they KNOW you probably won't be purchasing a dress today.

Re: dress shops
Lie about your date!! I think someone else said this. I got engaged in 2007 and I'm getting married in 2010 so when I got married some vendors were very snotty.
David's Bridal was pretty nice...although the lady kept saying 'dont worry- you ustill have time.' kinda annoying, but they were nice. Also, Macy's Bridal in Manhattan.

I went to RK Bridal, The Bridal World in Baldwin (they were so nice there)
I called Lillette's and I must have gotten the wrong person on the phone b/c when I told her my date she told me to wait until the summer I'm not letting it deter me from them though I am going to make an appointment around Christmas

Re: dress shops
I found the dress I love which is in a small shop in Sheepshead bay called Monical bridals. I want to keep trying until the summertime which is when I will make my decision

Re: dress shops
actually for me davids bridal was the worst and they were pressuring me to buy a dress that i didnt even say i loved, saying it could be discontinued when you come back. I loved village bridal, most people don't say anything regarding the date they just warn you about being discontinued and stuff....princess bridal did the same thing as davids basically and bridal reflections in massapequa were nice too. I think there's no point going shopping if your not looking to buy within a certain time frame...if you go shopping and say *well im not buying till may* theres no point, but if your going and when you find the dress you'll buy it thats fine and i think your attitude in the dress stores show that, which they pick up on and treat you accordingly.

Re: dress shops
I had no problem searching for my June '11 wedding in Jan of '09..& I ended up buying in March of '09 & P.S. It still didn't come in which is obviously fine point being I don't see the problem with ordering early when it could take up to a year to come in anyway... I ended up loving Paradise Bridal in Patchogue the best. Every other place I went to (& I went to alot) I fetl rushed or they women were rude..) looking back maybe it was because my date was so far away. But Barbara was the best at Paradise, she'd help me forever & never made me feel uncomfortable. I'm just the type of person that is very particular & when I know, I know. Good Luck!
