I am between sizes for my gown according to the bridal salon. So I ordered the larger size, but the sample is only 1 size larger then the size they ordered for me and I was swimming in it. My gown is poofy and detailed, and I am scared if they have to do too many alternations there is a greater chance of it getting messed up. Also does anyone know if the bottom part of the dress is the same size on all gowns? The bridal shop told me it was but I find that hard to believe.

Re: Dress Size
Stay with the larger size. This also happened to me, and I had lost about 10 pounds between when I ordered the dress and when it came in. So, I expected it to be falling off of me, but it wasn't! It fit and they only had to take it in a little bit. If I had ordered the smaller size, I'd be in trouble.

Re: Dress Size
The dress they ordered for me was the same size supposedly as the dress I tried on at the store.
The dress at the store was really big on me and the one they ordered fits almost perfectly.
You can't judge by the sample dress because they get stretched after being tried on so many times.

Re: Dress Size
Bridal shop last night told me different..she said that if it has a design along the bottom, you MUST have your shoes with you when you order becasue you will be measured because they make the dress to your size because they can't hem the bottom because of the design.
She also said that a lot of dresses (not all) with a design along the bottom now come in with the bottom design that comes off, she showed me on the sample. She said is it just sort of stuck there with a light fuse sort of material and it comes off, so they can take it off, hem the skirt, then sew it on permanently.

I questioned that as well because my gown has a beaded lace trim and the woman told me that they take the dress apart at the waist and alter it, which worried me alot. I have tried to get in contact with the company that makes the gown but they do not have a US phone number and the European e-mail never responds!

That seems totally wrong...to take it off in the middle, i know it would only be an inch or two, but think about it, doesn't it seem that if you were to take a few inches from the top of the skirt it would then be WIDER on you in that area, then how do you deal with that? I am no seamstress but that seams (lol) strange. How about calling a few other bridal salons and ask them how they alter...I am sure it is a reputable salon and they know what they are doing, but I can totally understand your concern. Sometimes the more we ask, the more we panic.

I was told the same thing about my gown, that if it's too long they can take it in at the waist. (this doesn't go for all gowns but they are able to tell which one's can be altered that way)

Re: Dress Size
Go with the bigger size. The samples are all stretched out from the ladies putting those little clips on and everything. I had the same dilema and ordered the bigger size. I had my first fitting and it just has to be taken in now...no big deal.
Oh and my dress also has work to the very bottom edge...I had a hollow-to-hem measurement and the length was perfect. If you're worried about them having to take up the dress from the waist (which will probably be fine) ask the bridal salon if they can do that for you. It did cost extra, butin the end would probably cost less than them taking the drss apart at the waist.

Re: Dress Size
I think realistically you should order tha size larger. God forbid you don't loose the weight, then what???

Re: Dress Size
I also think you should go with the larger size. I went with the larger size and it needs very little alterations and I lost 6 pounds since I ordered the dress. I think if I ordered the smaller size it would have been too tight.

It is easier to take things in than out.

Re: Dress Size
STAY WITH THE LARGER SIZE!!! I ordered just my size and worked out like crazy. I didn't realize it but gained 2 inches in my chest and my dress wouldn't button up! They had to add a panel of fabric and a corset and it cost me sooo much more in alterations.

Re: Dress Size
I say order it bigger. They could always take away material but they might not be able to add it.

I agree, go with the larger size, you can always remove fabric if needed, it's much harder to add!

Re: Dress Size
Definitely go with the larger size- the samples are always stretched out. It can always be taken it, but it's much harder to let the dress out!

Re: Dress Size
it would be better to take it in than to have all the extra added stress of losing weight on top of everything else

They hem from the waist in that case. I was told the same thing. Thats the normal and right way to do it.

that is what they are doing to my dress. i ordered a shorter hem from the company and it still needs to be taken up. they are doing it from the waist. it is normal, dont worry about it.

Re: Dress Size
The length will need to be taken up like 6 inches! I tried it on with heels way higher thne what i will be wearing and it was still buncihng on the floor in the front.
