dress size question-need your advice

i know wedding gowns run super small. the woman that sold me my dress said that i needed a size 12, but that the waist line is 2 inches smaller than what i measured. the bust would fit perfectly. she said alot of brides lose weight etc. however, this is giving me major anxiety!!! they have not yet orded the dress bc i have to give them the rest of the deposit on sat, so i want to request the size 14, which would fit my waistline perfectly, but the bust would be big.

i just feel like i dont need the added anxiety of losing weight (i really dont need to lose, just tone). plus i have alot of stomach problems and tend to get really bloated after i eat!!! who needs a tight dress?????!!

any advice from you wonderful ladies???

I think that if the sales women told you you need a size 12, I would go with her. Basically, they are responsible if the dress does not fit to your measurements. Sometimes if you order the dress to big and they alter it, you lose the effect of the dress. When I ordered my dress they wanted to order me a size larger then where my measurements fit into. I signed a paper indicating that I would be responsible if the dress did not fit. If you feel more comfortable and reassured by ordering thelarger size then go for it. I do not think you can go wrong either way.

honestly, for only two inches, i would order what the salesperson recommended. you could always get a nice support garment if you had to.

The rule of thumb is that it is better to take in then have to let out -
If you plan on wearing a corset, that will probably take about an inch from your waistline but, honestly, do what you are comfortable with. You definitely don't need extra stress right before the wedding worrying about whether or not your dress will fit.

I would order the size 14 to relieve myself of any extra stress. If they have to take it in, it will only be a little bit and probably won't interfere with the design of the dress. I'm sure everything will work out just fine!

hmm.. I would order a larger size rather than a just right size.. all dresses run dif and no 2 things (dresses) are alike..

You know yourself whether you will loose weight or not...be honest, if you don't think you will, then don't buy now 'hoping' too.

I would order the dress to the size you are now.

I'm kind of having a similar problem. I know I am losing weight and I have a very large, um, shall we say rack? haha. BUT I never lose weight up there (thank goodness ) so no matter how much weight I lose, I will need the bigger size and have to have the waist taken in. This concerns me a bit because I really don't want to lose the line of the dress, but I do need to lose some weight. Put it this way, my chest fits perfect into a size 18 dress, but my waist is more like a 14 I don't know what to do, but for you, I would go the size bigger. (Sorry for the tangent!)

Re: dress size question-need your advice

so i went today to drop off the deposit so that the dress may be ordered. i tried on the sample which was a size 10 and to my surprise it fit!!! i guess when i tried on the dress last week it was at night after i ate dinner. the saleswoman took my measurements again and everything worked out fine. the 12 should be no problem. if i got the 14, the saleswoman said that i would lose the fit of the gown. the 12 should be perfect!

I think it makes the most sense to order the size the fits your waist and then take the rest in. I would go with the 14.

I have a large chest for my size, so I ran into a similar problem. My bridal shop reccommended ordering the size that fit my chest and was very big arount the waist. I went for my first fitting a few weeks ago and the do have to take it in alot around the waist. I would err go for the bigger size, they cam always make it smaller, but cant make it any larger if its too tight.

I think that's weird that the salesperson suggested you order a dress that would be 2 inches too small in the waist. Normally, the rule of thumb in bridal salons is that they order the size according to your LARGEST measurement, because as someone stated, it's easier to take in then let out. 2 inches is quite a lot. It takes about 8-10 lbs. just to drop one inch...
I'd get the 14.

Re: dress size question-need your advice

The seamstress who did my dress ordered it one size smaller because she told me that usually brides lost the weight closer to the wedding with all the stress. She was right...I had lost alot of weight without even trying when I went for my fittings before the wedding. The dress fit perfectly and I had no problems.
