Re: Dresses--Ack! So hard to choose!
No pictures, there were a lot of 'no camera' signs so I never got my camera out, even though there were a few times when my mom could have taken a picture when the salesperson was out of the fitting room.
I do need to try on a few more dresses. Although, if you guys notice, both of those dresses have almost exactly the same shape, they differ only in the details of fabric and trim, and a little bit in the bodice shape and the skirt.
You can't tell by looking at the picture of the Casablanca dress, but the skirt is very, very flattering. It's mostly flat in front, which gave me a flat stomach (which I don't really have right now) and it had these box pleats on the sides, which sound like they'd make me look hippy, but they didn't, they just belled out the skirt in a very pretty way. I guess the fullness of the pleats started low enough that it's obvious it's the dress and not my hips. Anyway, it's a lovely effect, and one that I've never seen before on a dress, not that I've looked that much. There's two other, similiar Casablanca dresses that I also like but didn't see to try on. Each is from a different season, and I'm wondering if they do a version of the same tank or V-neck dress each season, just change the details! Keep in mind with the second dress that the model has no boobs at all, so the bodice looks terrible, while I'm a 38DD and will fill that sucker out! Also I'm wondering how that dress would look with a sash tied around it...it's an ad in the current Modern Bride, BTW.
The more I thought about it overnight, I'm leaning towards the Casablanca dress, if only because of the price. We're on a very strict budget as we're paying for this ourselves (although my mom unexpectedly offered to pay towards my dress yesterday! Not the whole amount, she was shocked at how much dresses cost now. ) There's a lot I could do with $300, and considering how much trouble I'm having deciding in between, it's a significant factor. I talked to my fiance about it a bit--I'm discussing dresses with him, and showing them to him. I don't really believe in the whole total secrecy thing, although I'm not going to let him see me in the dress until the day. He's a real GUY, he can't remember the diff between two long white dresses, and it's hard for me to make a major decision without discussing it with him. We talk about everything--it's one of the reasons I'm marrying him!
But I'm going to find the Watters dress today, and these two Casablancas dresses. Anyone have suggestions for Long Island shops?
