Dresses for larger bm?

At the end of December, my bp is coming into NYC and we are shopping for bm dresses that everyone can wear and feel comf. in. Here's a question.... I have a big range of sizes of the ladies in my wedding party. I have a bm who is about 95ibs. and a bm who is 330 ibs. I want them both to be happy and comfortable, but especially the larger bm-hard for her to find something. I love the look of Noreen's bm... the wraps will cover the girls arms. but does anyone have any ideas on dress styles that will make a larger bm comfortable?

Re: Dresses for larger bm?

Bridal separates, chose a couple styles and let them choose the one they will feel most comfortable in! I have seen this done if you are worried about how it will look, it always looks lovely!

Re: Dresses for larger bm?

I agree with Stacey. My girls picked all different dresses that made them feel comfortable. They will all be in the same fabric & color though.

Re: Dresses for larger bm?

Maybe a dress like this? It is long sleeves, but maybe something similar with shorter sleeves? I definitely agree on going with the separates.. that way you can choose a color and fabric and all the girls can pick tops that flatter them best?

Or a wrap blouse like this is classy, and can look nice on all your girls..

Re: Dresses for larger bm?

There are 3 things I can think of
1. You might also be able to find some nice looking & not too frumpy MOB dresses -- I was at one shop where a whole bridal party was wearing MOH dresses, they were slightly modified for the BMs, but they looked really nice.
2. separates would probably be a good idea -- though I've been having a hard time finding separates with fuller skirts.
3. Just pic a designer (with plus sizes) & color & let everyone pick their own dress.
Good luck!

Re: Dresses for larger bm?

I would say that you may want to go with separates... It will probably be hard to find a style that will flatter a teeny girl and a larger girl. By going with the separates, each girl can pick the top and/or bottom that they will be the most comfortable in!

Re: Dresses for larger bm?

Hi, I was in the same boat as you. This what I did and suggest: If your BP is coming into NY, you must go to RK BRIDAL. 38th and 8th I think?

Anyway, I would go with seperates, the skirt can be the same( a-line, everyone looks good in that) and then do the different tops but in the same material.

I went with impression bridal in aubergine(deep plum, eggplanty) style 881 (with spaghetti straps) for the bm, and style 931(top-tank top more flattering for her) and style 809(skirt) for the maid of honor.

It was very important to me that everyone would be comfortable. The dresses were very inexpensive too.

If you have any question, forum email me.

Re: Dresses for larger bm?

I agree with the rest of the ladies - separates all the way!!! My BP also ranges in sizes - (my MOH is giving birth just two months before the wedding, so she really wants to be covered ). My BF weighs 100lbs at the most. I found separates to be the most accomodating.

Good Luck!!!

Re: Dresses for larger bm?

I had two out of my 4 bridesmaid who were size 18 or bigger. I let them choose the dress themselves, my only specification was that it was blue - any shade. They ended up picking a two piece which worked fine for everyone. Wouldn't have been my first choice but I didn't have to wear it. I've been through having to wear some pretty scary stuff so they couldn't blame me! It turned out nice though.

Re: Dresses for larger bm?

I agree w/ seperates. The best bet IMHO is to ask the larger girl what she is comfortable in. she might be more open to certain style then you think

Re: Dresses for larger bm?

I have the same exact situation. We haven't gone looking for dresses yet but after looking through magazines, we will def be going with seperates. The same skirt for everyone and then they can choose the tops that best work for them.

Re: Dresses for larger bm?

I agree with the separates - this way everyone can match in color but perhaps get different tops etc

Stop in to a David's Bridal just to get an idea

or check out their site .

Also, find bridal shops that carry alfred angelo dresses

AND - when you get a price on a gown - just know that when the shop writes up the dress, those that are larger will have an added fee (i.e.more expensive dress)

Good luck

Re: Dresses for larger bm?

I have the same thing...size 1 to 18 and everything inbetween. I saw a bride on here that had their grils in different tops..i think they were the same bottoms...I thing i am moving towards that idea. They can all wear what they are most comfortable in.

Re: Dresses for larger bm?

I've been in a couple wedding parties where that was the case. The last one I was in the MOH was size 24 and two BM's were barely a 2. We all said whatever the MOH wanted (she was the size 24)...she did not want to wear a different dress or color. She chose a 2-piece BM dress....it was tank style and it looked nice one everyone and more importantly the MOH was happy with the dress. It did take awhile before she foudn one she was confortable in. Call around there are a few stores out there that do carry gowns in sizes bigger than a 10. I called like 20 stores and only found a coule and even then they would have like 10 dresses but at least it gave the MOH a feel for what she liked and was comfortable with.

I let all my girls pick their own dress. I just picked the color, mfg and material.
