Dressy enough for a BM dress? (with pics)

Original post by beachbum05

I just got the March JCrew catalogue, and fell in love with the 'embossed beach dress.' They make it in three different styles (I'd let my BM's choose which one they like best...they could all do different styles - I don't care)

These would all be in black....

Strapless

Halter

straps (I'm not a big fan of this one...but if it looks good on them....)

(back of it)

My ceremony is outdoors, in the summer, and my flowers are very non-conformed/non-traditional so I think it would fit the look of the wedding......

One of my Bm's was already planning on buying it, so I know they'd use it again!

What do you think?

What about this dress? More formal?

(again, it'd be in black)

I like this one much better than the first couple you posted from j crew... i get the whole vibe of your wedding but i think the j crew (depending on your material) might be a little too casual.

Ive seen a lot of really cute t length dresses.... have you gone on the knot.com and looked???

I deifnitely love this dress...

and to answer you question from before... I'm not really a fan of the dress period... I don't know what it is, but it look oddly shaped on the modle... who knows though, it could be really nice in person.

but with j.crew.. you don't know until it's in your hand with stuff like this.... it's catalog order only right?

yeah - I think you're right. First of all... looking at the strapless dress, I dont like the seam at all.... (looks better in the catalogue than on the website)... And second, I'm too lazy to orde rthings and ship them back.

Anyone have suggestions (like JCrew or Ann Taylor) that does less-formal bridesmaid dresses?

you can even go to a regular dress store, maybe a local place.

Sometimes Bebe will have cute semi-formal dresses and they'll be under $120.

ahhh theres so many but im drawing a blank W**

I think the red dress is great, I do think the first 3 might not be dressy enough

have you checked out ann taylor for dresses? She makes the most adorable dresses, definitely suitable for a bridesmaid and definitely suitable for many more uses other than being a bridesmaid

or you can get plain black wrap around type dresses...i have a pic of myself in one of my albums, in a black wrap dress, and fh is in a suit, i have a couple of pics in that, i bought that from express. and came in handy...ive worn it to a daytime wedding, and other events even night ones, just dressed it up with shoes and accessories when i needed to

What the h-e-double hockey sticks - would I do without you ladies!

See, I'm a firm believer in you can make any dress more dressy with the right accessories....

So Kim, I think that dress would be perfect! But I already had one BM express that she is not a fan of strapless. So who knows. I found some cool dresses on theknot (HIGHLY recommend checking it out, they have AWESOME dresses on there)... but naturally, they want my first born child as payment.

Lord and Taylor - Calvin Klein!! - $95!!!!

I tried that one on!! It zips up the front....

Maybe it's easy access????

And YES, I DOOOOOOOO like those Ann Taylor ones... but again, need non-strapless options...

Is this too frumpy??

Its definitely more dressy than I want...but I kinda like it...

(I dont even know if it will show up....)

ETA: I hate when you can't show a pic b/c of flash player. Grr.

Actually, the first pink one (with the darker pink sash) is in my bridesmaid album, I'd like to use it for my girls. I think it's perfect because they can wear it again, it's inexpensive and it's from a chain so my girls that are not in NY can go to any ann taylor to try it on
