Drinking at the wedding

Drinking at the wedding

Since some people on both sides of the family tend to go slightly overboard with drinking I have decided to purchase everyone a carnation pin on corsage. Those in white are fine and those in pink will have a 3 drink min. NO ONE but me, FH, and the bartenders will know this. I don't want anyone sick or drving drunk!!!!!!!!!!

I think that the person with a different color will pick up on something when they aren't allowed a fourth drink. Its an interesting idea but I am not sure it will realistically work.

As a bartender at weddings I would say ouch. That is a really hard position to put your vendor in. Here is my suggestion:

Tell the bartender that the people with the pink corsages should have 1/2 water drinks. This way they don't need to cut them off but they are still slowing them down.

1/2 water is a great idea! I didn't think of that. I am just so worried someone will get out of hand

Yea, I wouldn't do the carnation thing, but definitely tell the bartender to make the drinks weak.

i understand where you are coming from---but i don't think that would be a very good idea. ppl will start figuring it out--and of course ppl will also want to know why they have pink and the others have white.

and not to sound snobby---making ppl wear carnations at your wedding seems kind of um....bad.

i think you should point out some ppl to the bartenders and make sure their drinks are watery--that's the best solution i would think of

I'm in a very similar situation. What my BM told me to do is to let my maitre' D know who they are and they'll notify the bartenders. However, I'm going a step further and am actually providing pictures of the people to the hall and am insisting on meeting my bartenders prior to my wedding to discuss this with them. I'm also hiring a bouncer to watch the crowd....yes, it gets a tad wild. Honestly, if I could get out of inviting some of these people, it would ease a lot of stress out of my day but unfortunately, that isn't an option. Definitely express your concerns to your hall.

Good idea. Yea people will def. pick up on it...and the bartender wouldnt want to be put in that position. So just make the drinks weaker

Re: Drinking at the wedding

we're doing unlimited beer & wine with one signature drink to cut down on the drunken factor-- we will have wine tasting & are having the bar inside open if people want to purchase a particular drink....FH doesn't drink and this was the best solution we came up with...

I agree with the other gals, water down the drinks instead. If you have a few that you know get out of hand just let your bartender know. They'll know when to cut them off.

I agree with everyone-just have them make the drinks weak!

I understand your concerns, but I don't think this carnation thing will go over well. Personally if I was given a pink corsage and found out the reasoning - I would be PO'd!!! I think these people will be too, they are adults, (although they don't act like it at times). And what if they decide not to wear these carnations - I know as a woman, dressed up for a wedding...I wouldn't want a carnation stuck on my dress if I wasn't involved in the wedding. Also...what if they go to one side of the room for three drinks ...then the other side of the room for another three...and what about CH..there are sometimes different bartenders from CH to Reception. They could also just ask a white flower person to get them a drink that they knew.

Seriously, I don't think that is a good idea, I think people will be PO'd...and if someone gets PO'd enough, you don't want them stating this to you at your wedding.

If you seriously have issues with people drinking...I think having a conversation with them BEFORE your wedding is the best bet..no one wants to be singled out....especially when they find out this flower that you had them wear means that you think they drink to much...

I'm not sure that I would like the corsage idea.....

To be honest with you, it's like going to a luau and being forced to wear a Lei...... half the people don't, and if you do....chances are you might switch it around to match your outfit. --- if that happens, you'll have a large group of drunk DDs....and completely sober drinkers...

I come from a HUGE, typical Irish family (big time drinkers) and while I would hate to see anything happen to any of them, I feel that they are all old enough to take care of themselves....

You have so much to worry about on your wedding day and I would like to hope that your family does not add the burden of 'oh did you see how drunk uncle so-and-so is....how is he getting home'....

I totally agree. You're definitely in a tough spot, but forcing your guests to wear corasages, so that you can limit the # of drinks each ADULT can have, is imo, not the way to handle this.

I like the idea... but if the people figure it out they might be embarrassed to realize you don't trust them drinking.. or they might be embarrassed b/c oher people will see the different color carnations and judge them

No offense, but you can't control other adults' actions. And, not that I am a big drinker, but if I ever found out somebody did that to me, I would be pissed. Maybe if you feel so strongly about it, you could just have a conversation with these people before the wedding and ask them to go easy out of respect for you. Honesty is the best policy!
