I heard heard and seen everyone rave about them and think I am going to book them this weekend....
I have to say I really really loved Jovan and Verdi and I really wanted to book with either of them but with the new house and all, I guess I have to put things into perspective and go a bit cheaper- I just can't spend over 7,000 for photo and video.
Duets prices are so good.... are they really as good as everyone says?
Was the language thing a problem for anyone?
I'm a little worried about their video- any comments?
Thanks so much--- this is just the worst part of the whole wedding planning!

Re: Duet
SO far I love Duet. They were great at my wedding and there where no problems. My cousin used them too and they did a great job on her photo and video. I was so impressed with hers that I booked them right away.

I haven't spoken to them yet--they're on my list to call tomorrow. What language thing?

They're Asian, so they have kind of a thick accent. I was able to understand them pretty well though, and they were very nice :)

I absolutly loved what I saw when I went in - their pictures are beautiful! My friend and hiw FW were also set on another photographer, but went in since FH and I had raved about them so much, they went in to see them and booked on the spot!
Good luck with whatever you choose!

Re: Duet
Choosing a Photographer has been the hardest decision for me to make. Duet was very nice and the price is great. What worried me was they did not have many complete albums to show from just one wedding. Other photographers I have been to had tons of books from each wedding they have done so you really got a feel for their work and style. The books he presented me were a mix of pics from all different weddings. That worried me. But dont get me wrong, the pics I did see were very nice. I just rather go with someone who had more a larger body of work to show me. Also they didnt include enough proofs for me..only 400-500...which is low compared to others. I figure you have this day once in your life and you dont want to look back and wish you had booked Verde or Jovan. If you do go with Duet I wouldnt worry about the language issue. I believe all the photographers that work under him speak good English. As for the video, I thought that was the best part, he used to be a TV commercial director so you know the editing will be great on the video. Good luck in your decision, I know its a hard one.

I think they probably tell you 400-500 but I had seen posts from former Duet Brides where they had more than that. (FeliciaDA) mentioned in her review how she got so many more. Duet did show me complete albums. Not sure which one you saw though. Verdi and Jovan have really good work but too expensive for me considering I'm doing other things besides planning a wedding. I personally went to other photographers that showed tons and tons of their work and were charging more money and I personally thought that the quality was not the same and I really I was getting more for money with DUET. I went to a photographer that quoted $5000 just for proofs. In my opinion and in my wallet's opinion as well , that's a bit too much. But we all have to make our own decisions accordingly. We just have to be happy ourselves with the decisions we make. I'm a happy camper so far

Re: Duet
I totally agree with you. I have been to so many photgraphers and they have been so overpriced. Having a wedding in NY and then trying to buy a house etc is near impossible... I guess my point was, like yours, make a decision and be happy with it..you dont want to have any regrets....

Re: Duet
I also agree with frescabride. When I went in they showed me 3 complete albums. When I saw them at the expo last week, they had new albums on display showing their digital albums with featured weddings. I can only assume these are the albums they now show. Did you ask to see a complete album? I know some brides are hesitant to ask, but Eric would be more than happy to show you a few examples. Also if you read the official thread on duet you'd be suprised to find out you get more than 400-500 proofs by what past brides say.

Re: Duet
We got 600 proofs from DUET....We didnt have any problems understanding Eric and his crew. The videogragher didnt speak to us but the other photographers that were there were WOO, and ALberto. They were all excellent. The proofs came out amazing.... See for yourself

Re: Duet
I never actually counted, but I think I got close to 800 proofs... SO MANY more than the 'guaranteed' 400-500. I think that most of the past Duet brides would agree.. I have rarely heard of anyone getting just 400-500 proofs.
My proofs came out just lovely. And trust me, the language problem was NEVER an issue... Quite honestly I had an easier time dealing with Nicole and Eric than I did with my limo or hall.. and there was no language issues there! My point being, the photograhers/videographers are very fluent in English and are great guys that totally put us at ease..we had Sung , Alberto (photo) and Hong for video. Nicole is always very accomodating whenever you call/email her with questions or concerns.
I also got raves from all my guests and my bridal party about how wonderful they thought the photog/video was at our wedding. I particularly heard comments about how they were never 'in the way' yet captured every moment. Just what everyone would want in their photographer!

Re: Duet
I booked with duet also. The albums they showed did have a mix of weddings which i don't think is the best way to show albums; however, i was able to see two complete sets of proofs from recent weddings that brides had not picked up...and this confirmed my opinion that they take many excellent photos.

Re: Duet
Just so you know... it could be closer to the 500 they indicate.
I haven't yet seen my proofs, but Nicole told me over the phone that there are between 500 and 600 -- which actually disappointed me after everyone on here keeps saying they got over 700! It seems that people's experiences vary -- and they only give you the 'good' shots... so if they're having an 'off' day, fewer good shots to give.
Update: I got my proofs and there are over 700 -- but many of them are duplicates (each posed shot -- and my husband and I did our family portraits separately and together after the wedding -- came in triplicate). There are probably about 300 proofs that are good, which still will make choosing for an album very difficult. A handful are breathtaking, and the majority are just good. There's a nice mix of B/W and color, of 'artistic' and 'traditional' etc. I would advise future Duet brides to be really specific about what you want - - 95% of my proofs are of family, and whoever happened to be on the dance floor near me or my husband. I have maybe 4 pictures of me with my friends, 1 shot of my husband with some of his friends at their table (and only, I think, because his cousin set up and was taking the picture himself, so Duet glommed onto it), NO pictures of my family friends, and NO table shots (there were like 10 tables total, half of which were family, so we're not talking a huge wedding). Perhaps this is part of the 'inobtrusive' style everyone talks about them having. . . but, again, I'm sure if you specify, they will try to accommodate you. My mistake, I think, was assuming that they would take table shots. . .anyway, just wanted to update you all. While there are things I'm unhappy about, I think I can work with what I have, and am still hopeful that I will end up with a wonderful album.

Re: Duet
I say consider quality and not quantity. A photographer's price tag is not indicative of the type of work they produce or capable of...there are alot of overpriced photographers out there whe when I look at their pics its not the skill always involved but the LOCATION/backdrop of the photos.
Also dont go by number of proofs..I got under 300 proofs from my photographer and he was only 1200.00. At first I was upset by so little proofs but then when I looked at friends albums I realized that A. they spent 2x-3x more and B. (some) photographers take like 10 shots of the same pose with slight variations of movement to fill their quota for shots and even then some miss important events that are standard. So in reality I did good..I saved $$$ while capturing my day.
So..you have to consider the big picture and not on one factor.

Re: Duet
I definitely agree that quality and not quantity are what matter. Unfortunately, my step-mother just picked up my proofs from Duet and said that only about 100 really good ones. Sooooo.... 25% of a small number (she thought there were like 400 or so pix) is much less than 25% of a larger number (many Duet brides say they got 700+). Assuming that your photographer is of consistent quality, the more proofs, the greater your chances of getting those pictures that you LOVE. Anyway, I can't wait to see the proofs myself and see what I think -- I'll let all you Duet brides know how they did!
Update: My stepmother was right. Every posed shot was taken 3 times, so there are only 300 or so 'unique' pictures. A few really good 'wow' pictures -- but overall, very disappointing.

Re: Duet
I am using Duet! So far we have been very happy with them. We have gotten our EP back and like alot of them! The language thing is tough but it did not bother us b/c we know that they knew what they were doing! I think what you get for the price is great! I rec'd one of them to one of my sorority sisters and she liked them alot as well!
