DUET question ... anyone deal with Huntington office?
Hi ladies! I have a question about DUET Photography. I've been doing my LI Weddings research, and I was really excited to meet with DUET since I saw so many wonderful things about them on these boards! However, my fiance and I met with Danny (not the photographer Danny) in the Huntington Station office on Saturday, September 3, and we had a horrible experience. I really loved the work and the albums we saw, but we were treated so poorly that we decided not to use DUET for our wedding.
First, Danny tried to talk us out of a bunch of things we wanted. When we said we wanted an engagement shoot, he gave us a strange look and asked numerous times 'Are you sure you want an engagement shoot?' We said yes, we did, and he asked why. We said for our save the dates, to which he replied 'All you need for save the dates is one good picture of the two of you.' We said we understood, but still wanted the engagement shoot. He (somewhat reluctantly and disapprovingly) added it to the package. He then tried to talk us out of using DUET for our thank-yous, insisting we would save money if we made them ourselves. We said that we knew that, but would rather get them from the photographer, and even though we insisted he add them to our package and quote us for them, he didn't.
We asked about videography and asked to see an example of DUET's video. Danny said instead of showing us one in the office, he would email us some clips. He took down my email address and recited it back to me correctly, but then never sent the clips. First of all, we've been to numerous photographers and have never NOT seen the video in office. Second, I know he had the correct email address so there was no reason for him to not send me clips.
We left the studio unsatisfied and underwhelmed with the customer service. After a few days went by and we didn't receive the clips, I emailed the address on DUET's website (since Danny never provided us with a card or a way to contact him at all) and no one responded.
My friend and her fiance met with DUET a few days later and had Patrick and absolutely loved him.
Sorry, just needed to vent and was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience! We were so disappointed!

some girls have that experience with them, but to be honest, i had a better experience there than with any other photo vendor
maybe he was trying to talk you out of the engagement shoot to keep you within your budget?

I would talk to Andrew or Peter. They were so personal and great to talk to. We talked with Andrew when we booked and he was amazing. We talked with Peter when we booked our e-pics. I'd try meeting with them and see if your experience changes!!
Sorry for the horrible experience...

When I went there they kind fo just handed me albums and a book with packages. Not very helpful or accomodating. Also I didnt feel they were very willing to stray from the packages.
We honestly went there expecting to book with them but decided not too just because of the meeting.

i'm sorry you had an unfavorable experience with DUET. I can only speak for the times I spoke with Danny over the phone (i booked online), and he was nothing but pleasant.
I just wanted to say that just because you had a bad first impression from them, I wouldn't necessarily count them out yet. Their work is simply stunning, and their photographers are so personable and mine, Alberto, was wonderful to work with. Danny might have been trying to sway you into staying with your budget and ultimately helping you out in the long run.
But again, this is JMO. You book with whoever you feel comfortable with.

Thanks girls, I'm glad to know it wasn't just me. Funny thing is, when we looked through the albums we liked the photographer Danny's work the best ... but the sales rep Danny completely turned us off. The photos are beautiful and the price was reasonable, but we've met with a few others and have also been impressed, so I think we'll probably end up going with someone else. My wedding is the one thing I'm allowed to be picky about and no one can judge me, haha, so I feel justified going elsewhere due to poor customer service. If only we met with Patrick!

Andrew is great! That's who we met with. I would email/call Peter (head person) and tell him how Danny treated you. Maybe he has no idea that this person is treating Duet's potential clients this way.

Sorry to hear you had a bad expierence.
I have been into the Huntington office many times, but I have only dealt with Peter. He was great to talk to and work with, and everytime I called with questions he did everything he could to help me. I guess it is a matter or who you deal with, I personally have nothing but great things to say about ther customer service, photographers, and their amazing work.

I booked with Duet through the huntionton office and did not have any problems. However, I already knew I was booking with them (they did my sisters wedding), so didnt bother asking to see the video. I was extreamly satisfied with the package and price that I got, and was even able to bargain with them. They did suggest that I do my thank you's through snapfish or kodack since their prices for thank you are very high...I appreciated his honest on this though.
I am sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience.....to date, this company does the best work I've seen. If you havent booked with another company yet, maybe you can go back and speak with someone else?

Re: DUET question ... anyone deal with Huntington office?
I booked duet through the huntington office and met with Danny. He wasn't like over the top friendly as I'd expect a DJ or DOC or someone to be, but he was nice enough and informative. We were running late for our appointment because of INSANE traffic and he was nice enough to wait around on a friday evening and keep our appointment.
He did suggest that we get thank you's through shutterfly or something like it because it would be cheaper and after he explained the packages I mentioned that there was kind of in between the packages in terms of what we wanted and he worked with us to customize it (which including dropping the engagement session because we told him we did not need that). at no point was he pushy with us to eliminate things or stick to any of the packages as they were. and he had no problem showing us a video during the meeting (but I should mention that we are not booked with them for video). I did hear that they were modifying the website so you can see video clips, i dont know if that has anything to do with him wanting to send you a link or a video instead.

Yeah, I really liked what Duet had to offer, but the way Danny presented himself and spoke to us really bothered me and my FH. We have a couple more appointments, so hopefully one is promising! Honestly, I'm so ready to be done visiting photogs, I want to book someone!!! :)

Same thing happened to us!!!! They over booked that day. They had 3 11:00am appt. and only 2 areas in their office to seat us. So we couldn't see the videos and danny said he will e-mail me...two and a half weeks later!!!, I got them. And on top of that I was not happy with them... they didn't look good. but i do love the photos. so i guess we will see.

Re: DUET question ... anyone deal with Huntington office?
That's so weird, Danny actually just emailed me the video clips today! I'm at work so I haven't had a chance to look at them yet. His email was really casual, kind of like 'sorry for the delay, here are the videos, I look forward to hearing what you think...'
My FH and I will watch the clip(s) later and see what we think. I really did like Duet's pictures, so if the videos are good as well maybe we'll reconsider.
Who else have you ladies met with and/or booked? We met with Sherwood Tri-Art (gorgeous but WAY over our budget), Proline (loved Elliot and affordable), Deja Vu (liked the pics, a little over budget), and ********* (loved the pics and video, a little pricey, might try to talk down). We're meeting with Patken this weekend. I've heard mixed things about Patken ... seems brides really love the end results but aren't always too happy with the customer service.

Re: DUET question ... anyone deal with Huntington office?
just remember to ask these questions because I did not ask and regreted who I booked and ended up cancelling and losing my deposit
do you take in RAW photos(they are able to edit the photos) Duet does this, you can tell from there photos
do you edit epics do you get the high res files to your epics when do you get the high res files to your wedding photos
how many pictures do you edit out of the wedding photos do you get the edited and unedited pictures of your wedding photos.
