Re: Dumb ? Here, What is an Anniversary Dance?

All of the married couples get up. The dj says anyone who had been married one day, sit down. Then a year, sit down. Five years, ten years and so on. The last couple standing is presented with the bouquet.

It's really sweet because it usually winds up being a couple that has been married 50 years or more.

Re: Dumb ? Here, What is an Anniversary Dance?

Exactly, I think the anniversary dance is a nice way to honor marriage. It has become common, but I still like ti better than the throwing of the bouquet because by the time I get married, there will hardly be any single girls left to catch it.

I have the same problem, EvenEdan. I am one of the last to get married among my girlfriends.

Re: Dumb ? Here, What is an Anniversary Dance?

Thanks for answering ladies!

I will have the longest married couple get my bouquet and then have the older gentleman put my garter on the older woman's leg!

Re: Dumb ? Here, What is an Anniversary Dance?

I did the Anniversary dance. I did it a little different.
I still had hubby take my garter off. Then after the longest married couple was recognized...my great aunt/uncle, I gave my aunt the bouquet, and my uncle the garter. Then I had my uncle put the garter on my aunt. EVERYONE LOVED it!!!!
Including my aunt/uncle.

Re: Dumb ? Here, What is an Anniversary Dance?

We did a variation on it. The couple with the closest anniversary to ours won the bouquet. We didn't want to do longest married, b/c it was a dead giveaway to my grandparents- 54 yrs. I wanted an element of surprise in there.

Re: Dumb ? Here, What is an Anniversary Dance?

I did the anniversary dance and wound up being surprised at the winner. DH & I thought it would be his grandparents and wound up it was a neighbor. We had 5 couples over 45 years and 4 over 50 and 3 over 55! When it got down to the end, the crowd and DJ got really into it. It was so nice and special. The couple that won loved getting the garter and bouquet. They would have been too old to ask the man to get down and put the garter on but it was very cute. I have some great pictures but unfortunately I don't have any scanned!
