Dumb Question but Clueless

Hi Ladies:

So my colors are Raspberry and Navy. My FIL already bought her dress for the wedding it's NAVY. So my mom is like oh gosh where the hell am I going to find a Raspberry dress from? She's like it's traditional for the parents to match with the bridal party. Is this true? Not enough ppl get married in my family for me to ever take notice I feel completely lost LOL

From the weddings I've been to recently, they do not have to match the bridal party. They just shouldn't match each other

My FMIL wanted to wear the same color as my bridesmaids and i said no way. she should stand out from them. I think its a matter of opinion, my cousin is insisting her mother wear the same as the bridesmaids (Black)

I don't want the mothers matching the bridesmaids or each other. I want them to stand out as MOB and MOG.

I think its just whatever you want it to be. My bridesmaids will be wearing coral and we have coral/peach/ivory flowers and decorations so I basically want my mom and fmil to wear anything that just doesn't horribly clash with the colors of everything else.

I didn't want them to match, fmil is pewter and mom is wearing navy...my bridesmaids are in plum

I don't think the family has to match, but I think it looks nice if they coordinate in some way like the other girls mentioned.

My bridesmaids are wearing light blue and so far my mom is wearing silver.

This is happening to me too!!!!!!
I don't know when this became a thing but my FSMIL asked my FH what color the girls were wearing and she said, 'okay good, I'm sure I can find something like that'

Uhhh, no. LOL

So, I'm switching the colors. :)

I haven't seen the MOB wearing the same color as the bridesmaids. But you also don't want them to clash (in family photos, my moms dress shouldn't clash with my sisters' dresses, same for FMIL and FSIL).

ive heard that MOB and MOG dresses should compliment the wedding party (not clash) but I wouldnt have them match

I want the MOB & MOG dresses not to clash with the bridal party but something that complements it.

I don't think they should match. The colors should definitely compliment each other but I don't think they should be the same.

My colors are raspberry and plum. I wanted my mother and MOG to wear something in the champagne/ cream family but after dress shopping for them...I realize having them color coordinate with the bridal party I'm limiting their options. They kept trying on dresses that complimented my colors but wasn't to flattering on them. After this experience I told them to forget about the color and wear whatever makes them feel good.

I think the mothers should stand out and wear a different color.

My colors are purple and silver. Bridesmaids are wearing purple and FMIL is wearing I believe a silver dress. For now at least. She still is undecided. =(

Thank you ladies. I want my mom to stand out not blend in. I'm so glad to hear that it is not absolutely necessary that she has to match.

I agree that having them clashing with, or wearing the same color as the bridal party would be annoying. Personally, its not a fight Im willing to have, so I'm just letting them choose whatever. If FMIL decides she wants to wear neon orange, it's on her. I figure, they have to buy it and feel comfortable in it, I'd rather have that then then hating it all day and it showing in their body language.

My girls are going to be in navy and the guys will be in a grey. So my mom is planning on wearing a pewter color dress. I haven't even discussed it with my FMIL.

My FMIL is making sure to get a dress that ISN'T the same color as the bridal party. I always thought they did their own thing.

I haven't been to a wedding where the moms matched. If I asked my mom to wear pink like the bridesmaids we'd definitely have a good laugh about it!
