Dumb questions

When we sign the marriage license after the church ceremony, do I sign it with my new married last name or my maiden name?

Also, I will need to change my passport to my new married name. How do I do that?

well our church asked us to bring our marriage license at the rehearsal and we had to sign it then, signed with my maiden name.

Passports-you DO NOT change it for your HM, well if you are leaving soon after the wedding that is. In order to change your name for the passport or anything you will need the marriage certificate which you receive in the mail about 1 week to a few weeks AFTER your wedding. So if you are leaving the next day or a few days after you wont have your marriage certificate.

You just use the passport with your maiden name, when you book it is also in your maiden name the ticket anyways so better off

well it says what your maiden name was and then under says what your new name is. Even with the license its the same thing, when you apply for it you are going to use your maiden name when you go to get it, of course they will ask what your new last name will be and if youre going to use it and put that on there too. But it has to have your maiden name on there since when you apply for a license you are not married

Dont worry about signing the license at the church, if you have a question they will answer it for you

The reason I am asking all this is that i will be moving to the UK after the wedding...my FH lives in London. I am going to be applying for a marriage visa to live in the UK.

After the wedding I will need to change my name with SS, then get a new passport, then apply for the visa!

I am about ready to pull all my hair out at this point! It's way too much

well when i got back from the HM, we received our marriage certificate, it had come in the mail a few days before we came back...some people receive it a week after, others 2 weeks and some ive heard up to a month.

As soon as you get your certificate THEN you can change your name. Passport, be warned it takes 6 weeks to get a new one with your new name.

We actually signed it at the clerks office when we went to get the license. At the church, only the moh and best man signed in the witness spots as well as the priest. Then our church mailed it in for us.

Not exactly sure how to change the passport, I'm in the process of changing everything now...

ETA: Also, when we went to get the license, they asked us where they should send the final certificate to so I'm assuming you can ask them to send it to the UK if necessary.

Oh, and I went on my hm with my old passport, no problems cuz all the documents were in my maiden name still.
