Wanna know a secret?
SHould I brace myself???
I used to have a 'special friend' who I used to 'hang out' with . Well he too was drunkand woke up walking and talking in his sleep thinking that my computer chair was the toilet. He told me to get up that he had to pee so I told him he knew where the bathroom was. Apparently he didnt and so my old computer chair, doubled as a urinal that night.

OK, I worked in bedding for a few years so I can answer your question:
A comforter is usually on the heavier side. It comes on solid colors or patterns. It is NOT a blanket, which is much lighter.
A duvet is a cover for your comforter. This also comes in many patterns as well as solid covers. Some people get them to cover down comforters because down comforters usually come in plain ol white. You could also get a duvet to put over your regular comforter if you want something different, but don't want to buy a new comforter. They usually button close and are a pain in the arse to put the comforter in.
A quilt is very very light. I use a quilt in the summer. Usually a quilt will come in a patchwork sort of arrangement, but I have seen them in other styles as well. If you like the patchwork design, you could put a blanket under it to use in the winter.
HTH!
Sorry, while I was typing my long winded response, Lauren clearly answered the question! Time for bed!!

I have a 'friend' who got really drunk when we were in Miami on vacation. My 'friend' sweats a lot at night. I woke up on night on this vacation b/c the bed was saturated with what I thought was sweat. then I realized it was to much liquid to be sweat! My 'friend' was so drunk that he pissed in the bed when I was sleeping next to him. I will never, ever let him live this down!!

Re: DUVET, QUILT, COMFORTER?
I went on vacation with my 'friend' and he got really drunk. he layed in the bed and then spilled water all over it, then he moved to the other side of the bed. I layed a towel on the bed and went to sleep. Sometime in the middle of the night he peed in the bed. In the morning he actually had the nerve to say that I peed in the bed and pushed him into it!!! I will also never let this 'friend' live it down!!

Thats kind of like when I pass gas in my classroom and when one of the kids says 'EW' I say 'DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM?'

Ewww.... too much pee for me to deal with!
Les, I think we are going to register for a duvet. We have a lot of comforters and 1 quilt that is currently on the bed. We also registered for a white down blanket that we'll put the duvet over. Now I just to put the bedding on the registry that I want.
What does yours look like?

We like and chose this one Calvin Klein Orchids:
We know it is expensive. We know the odds of someone buying us everything are slim to none. BUT I wont put something on my bed that I don't like. If anything, we will get SOME of the stuff and purchase the rest ourselves with the completion discount at MACY's. The only parts we didn't register for are the accent pillows. I could get coordinating solids that are plain and less expensive. Fortunoff doesn't seem to carry the Calvin Klein Orchid's Collection. They have the blue one - the Bamboo collection.

Re: DUVET, QUILT, COMFORTER?
The only advantage of a comforter with a duvet cover is that you can change the duvet cover, shams and bedskirt, without having to change the whole bedding...you just slip on different covers. The thing that I dont like about duvets is that first of all they are expensive, its a pain to put it over the comforter, and it makes the whole comforter with a duvet cover very heavy...I use them because I have a dog that owns part of the bed and so I change my sheets and the covers pretty often...its easier to wash.
