e-party

Re: e-party

I'm just really bummed cause ever since FH and I got engaged (bout 2 months ago) nobody has really done anything.....I didn't get any gifts, not that I really expected any, and not one person has mentioned anything about an engagement party, which makes me assume that if I want one I have to throw it myself. I got one congratulations card and that was from my grandparents.....It makes me sad that nobody is really making the fact of us getting married a big deal

Awe... I didn't really get any thing either hunny Don't worry it will get better. Why don't you talk to FH about it? I talked to mine and he said he was gonna talk to his parents- these guys surprise you sometimes- after all, there is a reason why we marry them right? Hang in there!

We're not having an engagement party, but right after we got engaged I sent out announcements and we received the nicest cards and gifts. You could do that.

I think that the old fashioned way is that the Bride's parents are in charge...

My parents are slightly old fashioned so they took on the responsibility happily! Although my mom is driving my slightly nuts

I am sorry!!! We are planning on having one and throwing it on our own. No one offered and we want one so we decided why wait lets just do it ourselves!

I do know how you feel. I am not close to my family at all and it has been very hard because you expect certain things and people to say certain things and when it doesn't happen you feel so bummed. My only advice is to say 'the hell with them' and do whatever you want with fh and be happy

I think generally bride and groom pay. I don't think there are any rules.

I'm sort of in a similar situation... I got one congratulations card that was from my aunt and uncle and in it was actually written... 'please don't book April 25, 2009 because we already have a wedding on that day and don't want to have to choose between the two'

FIL's haven't offered much and I doubt they would even host or give us $$$ towards a RD. I think they offered us $1500 for whatever we choose to put it towards. I'd rather it be for flowers or the church than a party...

I'm not throwing an e-party for us b/c we can't afford it so if no one else is doing it, I'm not having one.

Re: e-party

i think anything goes these days.

we didn't have an e-party, but i was surprised that only 1 aunt from FH's family sent us a card congratulating us on our engagement. we got several cards from my family, as well as small monetary gifts from my aunt, mom and grandparents. i wasn't really expecting gifts for the engagement though, but i am a little surprised that his family didn't even send us a card, especially since they live 5 hours away and we only see them once or twice a year!

we are paying for it ourselves....which after all that we have spent to do it, we are regretting it!
