How long after you get engaged are you supposed to have your e-party? Who should invite and how elaborate should it be? Thanks

We had ours 3 mos. after we got engaged. We had about 100 people, (family and friends) at Vito's in Long Beach. We had a five-course meal, but it was casual dress. Planning it was similar to planning a wedding.

We got engaged last July and are having our e-party This July. It will be at timberpoint country club - we are inviting about 100 people. There will be a cocktail hour of passed hors devours and then a buffet dinner. We are going to have aan inexpensive DJ. We waited awhile because of our extremely long engagement . . . good luck

we got engaged in 12/01 and our party was in 7/02. We wanted to have something outdoors so we had to wait until the weather was nice.

I'm new to this thing... i just got engaged jan 4,2003 but my wedding isnt until may 21,2005... When is an appropiate time to have an engagement party? Is this summer too soon or should i wait until next year? Also.. who do you invite? Pleaseee someone help me!! I'm the first one of my friends to get married so they are no help...

we had ours 2 months after we got engaged and we had 200 people at the Fox Hollow. IT was pretty formal..

We never had one
And we are still wondering why not??
We don't have the $$ to throw our own...but no one in our families threw us one or had one at their house....oh well, wedding is 4 months away!

we're having it this spring or summer. We got engaged new years and getting married next may. So we figured this spring/summer will be a good time. its not going to be big either. Just a bbq in FIL's backyard. Its mainly to get families and close friends of both sides to get together to celebrate and meet if they haven't.

We were engaged the 4th of July and had our engagement party on September 29th. I think you can have it at any time - - depending on how long your engagement is.
It was at the Milleridge Inn's Garden Room. Cocktail hour and then dinner reception. We had 80 people - - only immediate family. It was a nice way for the families to meet.

Got engaged 4/02 had my e-party 10/02 and am getting married 10/03.
I had a five hour cocktail party on a friday night at the harrison house in glen cove...we had open bar, stations and passed hors devours and then champagne toast and desert....hope this helps

I have a 'Wedding Etiquette' book which says the e-party should be up to 2 months after you announce your engagement but my party will be a little longer than that since we couldn't get any restuarants until June because of all the communions, confirmations and graduations. I don't really think it matters when you have it (as long as you have it before the wedding )
Also, we are having immediate family and bridal party (which still comes to about 70 people )
