E-Party Location - good/bad idea? With Poll

Original post by LuvMyAlfonse

I really would like to have our E-Party at Dave and Busters... that way it's not stuffy and it really is just a celebration of our engagement, not a fancy party where people feel obligated to bring a nice gift. Plus we can invite the kids and they won't be bored...

But every person I tell about it says something along the lines of 'real classy '.

So now I'm unsure... What does everyone think?

TIA!

This is really not the most mature response but those who voted 'No, its tacky' should bend over and take the stick out of their @$$. Just my honest very immature response. Its a celebration and people should have fun ... plus if thats what you and FH want then I say go for it.

I'm good thanks, I'll keep the stick right where it is...

Anyway, I did vote no, but to be honest, I did not because I think it's 'tacky' but more so it wouldn't be my style. I understand wanting a fun 'non-stuffy' e-party. You can achieve that w/o having to go to Dave 'n Busters. You could have a back yard pig roast or clam bake. Both very laid back options. I also think having it in a place like DnB can cause problems for people with young children. I know if I were a parent, I wouldn't feel comfortable with letting my kid go off and play on their own there. In this day and age that's just not very safe. So now I'm following my kid (or kids) around at DnB and I don't get to enjoy my friend/relative's e-party. That's no fun. So in your attempt to make it enjoyable for not only the adults but also the kids, you're almost making it more difficult. Also, would you supply tokens for the kids to play the games or would the parents of the kids have to? This maybe something to consider too... If I'm invited to an e-party, I'm gonna bring a gift. That's just the way I am, now I've got to pay for my kids to play at DnB. I don't know, I just don't see that idea working out very well.

Again, I totally get your wanting a party that is fun and laid back. I just think DnB may not be the way to go.

There's my 'not so immature' opinion...

Yeah, I thought about the tokens part - there's a package that includes a $10 token pp... But the babysitting part. Hmmmmmm, that's something to think about. Good point. Thanks.

Thank you guys so much! And to D'sGirl: that's where I would have it - in Farmingdale - thank you for saying it's great! I feel so much better now!!! I'm excited all over again!!!

Awesome!
The room is beautiful, all nice linens and when I was there they had candles everywhere so some one was having a party. I even said to one of my friends 'Hey have my Shower here'
She did not agree, but the room was very nice - Go for it

Exactly do what ever makes you and FH happy, who care about everyone else.

I think that sounds like fun. I am pretty sure they have a private room for parties, so its not like you would be out in the open with all the loud people around if some don't want to play video games, but want to sit around and talk.
The only thing I would consider is - would many of your guests be older who would have no interest in what Dave and Busters has to offer? Or would most of your guests be a younger crowd? If its the former, then I think you might be wasting money if you go to D&B because part of the price probably includes a game card for everyone.
