e-party question

My Fi and I got engaged in Sept. Now my Mom says she wants to have an engagement party for us. I think that it's a great idea. But we have already received gifts from his family. How do we ask people to come just to get together & not bring gifts?

Re: e-party question

I personally bel that e-parties should NOT be about gifts and thats why i opted not to have one. Its about you and FI celebrating. If you feel uncomfortable w/ it, tell your mom, thanks but no thanks (i mean it is 8 mons already).

Your mom can spread the word for you that you don't want any presents. You could also write on the invite 'your presence is your present' -- I've gotten that on a couple of invites.

I was going to post this same question. Only its me that would like to have an engagement party. We had a sort of small one with a few famly and friends to meet my fiance (as he is british and not many people new him). We did receive gifts which I told everyone not to bring. Now, that special people got to know him I would like to have an engagement party with his family (only our moms have met) when they come to New York this summer - but I also don't want everyone to think I expect gifts again - I totally don't. I just want to have a party celebrating our future together with our closest friends and family, but im unsure how to go about doing this

I've seen on invitations 'your presence is present enough'..very similar to what other have said. You can put it on your invitations. We hada small gathering because we didnt want to have a 'mini wedding' before the real wedding. If you invite one you gotta invite them all, so we just did imediate faily, god parents, and FI's grandmother (she was up from Florida)....it endedu p beign a really nice night for everyone to meet and get to know one another
