E-party questions

E-party questions

Where do most people have e-partys? Parent's backyard, restaurant, cc? How many people are at most - and how much do they cost per head?? I can imagine they can get pretty $$$

Re: E-party questions

We did not have one and in retrospect I am happy about that. I think that it is one more gift that people feel obligated to buy. Also, the really big ones are too much like a wedding. I would rather apply that money to the wedding. If I did anything, I would want it with close family in a restaurant for a sit down dinner.

Re: E-party questions

It was sorta the same for us-- we were interested in having one.. but, logistically and financially it felt like it would get out of hand-- and for the wedding that we and our parents wanted-- I'd rather all efforts go into that..

If we did have one- it would have been at FIL's house.. They have a lot of land and would be able to accommodate any kind of party-- I think that is a nice idea for you from your earlier post-- but, catering food in can get pricey, so you may want to look into other options if you are dead set on a party.

Re: E-party questions

I had always wanted to have an E-Party, even before I knew FH. So when we got engaged and decide to wait 2 yrs to get married, FH ws totally behind having an E-party. We're paying for it. It's going to be April23, at The Beach Club in Rockaway Park (Queens). It's a nice place; classy, but not too wedding-y. We are (after MUCH discussion) having a DJ, could you imagine dinner and no music for 4 hrs . I am opting for pastries for dessert instead of a cake (cake to me would be too wedding-y), no introductions or first dance (my friend had this at her e-party). It's going to be family and close friends (approx 65 invited). Aside from my having always wanted an e-party, FH wants one too, and seeing as our wedding is 2 yrs away, we're doing it. If we were getting married next yr, we wouldn't have one.

ETA: Our's will be about $2200 including unlimited beer (bottled), wine and soda, dinner (buffet w/ servers) and dessert.

Re: E-party questions

my e-party was in my parents backyard I had about 100 people with tents and it was catered witha couple of waitresses, tables linens, centerpieces and so forth...everything ran about $4,500. We never imagined that it would cost so much money but there were a lot of little surprises...everything can add up real quick.

we had it in my parents backyard....it was beautiful....everyone made some food (mom, fmil, family) I made my own centerpieces. What costs the most is the alcohol (and boy does it go!!!) We had about 85 people, and thankfully, people are still talking about what a great time they had that night,. Everything was perfect!

Re: E-party questions

We're having our e-party at the SandCastle next year in May and having app. 110 people (hopefully and not anymore). The party is from 7:30p.m.-1:30p.m. on a Saturday night and from my estimates as of now, it may end up costing us a little under $20,000. OUCH. My parents, his parents, my FI and I are really the only people chipping in (with an emphasis on my FI and myself). It's really turning out to be a mini-wedding. We will be getting 2yrs. after our e-party or else there would be no e-party.
But, I'm leaving a few details out, ex. the intermezzo, more people, no menu scrolls, etc.
If you need any help FM.

We had ours at the West End Cafe in Carle Place. It was a sunday brunch and we had the whole restaurant to ourselves, the do that on saturday afternoon also. The food there is fabulous at it I think $26.95 pp plus bar tab.

Re: E-party questions

I had no idea how much e-parties cost!!!! I can't imagine going to school, working, planning wedding AND the freaking e-party. I think our best option (if we are to do anything) is to have passed hor d'ouvres and cocktails on a sunday afternoon!!! THANKS!

Re: E-party questions

FH parents threw us our engagement party and they did a wonderful job. They set up tents in their backyard and decorated themselves. FH Uncle is an awesome caterer so he helped out on the food. We had about 80 people and I think it probably ran about 1000 (estimating)

Re: E-party questions

we had our engagement party at a restaurant with close family- around 80 people. it was great. i think it was around $35 a person including cake, appetizer, entree, beer, wine. we had a d.j, made our own centerpieces and made candle votive in votive holder favors. it can get pricey- like a mini wedding sometimes.

Re: E-party questions

We didn't want to have an engagement party, but we did want to have a party to introduce the two families to each other, and to introduce the bridal party to everyone...so we had a little party in my parent's backyard.
we called it an engagement party because there was no other name for it.....but it wasnt' a big huge deal. no centerpieces, no favors.....but we did get a huge amount of presents....which we didn't expect, but were incredibly grateful for

Re: E-party questions

so it makes sense to register for gifts BEFORE the e-party then, right ?!?

my parents didn't realize that and i was trying to explain it to them.

Re: E-party questions

We had an e-party in April - it was about $1500 for 65 people. We had it at Bertucci's in Westbury.

I think you should register before the e-party, most people gave us gifts from our registry.

Yes yes!!! Register! We registered a week or so after we got engaged.. Sure enough, the presents started rolling in.. We have so much gone off our registry we'll need to register for more stuff before my shower-- and we did not have an e-party.
