E-Party -- to have or not to have

Original post by CMS

As you all know by now...I'm the social butterfly of my family

Do I need to make it as fancy as the wedding? Can it just be at a restaurant? Can I have a DJ there?

And most importantly, do you think it's worth it to have one or do you feel it's just a waste of money?

I figure since FH wants to keep the wedding small and simple, I could have my way and have a kick *** e-party.

Thoughts/opinions/ideas GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks everyone. I definitely want to avoid having a mini-wedding. But can you girls believe that after 12 years our families have never met? So maybe an e-party would be a nice way for everybody to meet???

my parents just met fh's mom and stepdad for the first time on mon.... we;ve been together almost 7 yrs and they never met .... i was soo nervous but it turned out okay.... my parents liked fh's mom but couldnt stand the stepdad but thats okay... i def understand and dont mind much since hes not his real father ya know?

my mom and fh's parents are going to meet for the first time next sunday and we have been going out almost 6 years. im a lil nervous but im sure it will be cool

We're having outrs 12/1 at the local firehouse. We're having a DJ, favors, CPs, catered food and alcohol, but it's not going to be crazy fancy. It will be right in the middle. Do what you want and make it as fancy as you want it to be!!

it def is a lil scary cuz ya know .... in an ideal world, you want them to get along, but its no biggie if they dont... when will they really be seeing them/having to get invlved with them through the years???

We're not having an E-party. We just can't afford one. Maybe if we had some extra money we would but I'd rather just save the money and put it toward the wedding.

that was a big thing for me, i wanted our families to meet besides our parents of course who already met. this way by the time the wedding comes everybody already knows eachother and are more comfortable with eachother, i mean that is the POINT of an e-party for the families to meet lol.

I had ALOT of problems when planning it bc honestly i wanted something different but in the end i did what i thought i wouldnt do but still had an amazing time. I wanted more of a lounge/cocktail type party, i called TONS of places in the city such as restaurants, lounges, clubs, lofts, dance studios, museums and tons of other places you can throw a party at, and it was coming out to an average of about $130 pp...Problem is that Fh's family is HUUUGE so to say we're inviting close family, bp and a few other friends still comes out to ALOT of ppl, fh has 30 first cousins and most are married, plus 7 aunts and uncles and thats just his dads side alone lol, so yeah his family was about 80-90ppl, plus bp with their dates, then my family it turned into a bigger party than expected. I finally gave in after 3 months of searching for a unique type venue to finally give up and say ok ill go look at a catering hall and went with it

Alot of ppl will criticize, but ppl have to realize that everyone has different situations and reasons for why they do things.

I had my e-party at my mother's house...it was about 75 to 80ppl....and it was the BEST party ever!

It was also a great way for some of our extended families to meet each other. Like it turns out my father and his uncle went to the same high school so they got along really well.

It toally wasn't a mini wedding. I mean we had a cake, a favor, and there were speeches but that's about it.
(see my album for pics)

People are still talking about it and its been 3 months!

we had our e-party in the clubhouse of fh's grandmother's senior development with buffet a la FMIL. we made an iPod playlist, borrowed our friend's PA system, and picked up $300 in beer/wine/rum punch ingredients. it was a blast & we made over $1,500 in gifts in addition to the piles of beautiful presents people bought off of our registry. we invited most of the people from the wedding guest list, but ours is small. some people have e-parties that just include family, bp, and close friends, so you have a lot of flexibility w/ that.

if you'd like to have an e-party, just know that it can be done w/o dropping a huge sum of $ at a restaurant/hall.

Re: E-Party -- to have or not to have **UPDATED: FH's RESPONSE**

So Wed night, I ask as sweetly as I possibly can, 'Ooooh...can we have an engagement party?'

FH's response: Deer in the headlight look and silence.

Mom's response: 'Wow...girls really do marry their fathers.' (My father's idea of fun is sitting in his corner of the room and watching the Western Channel).

I think I'm going to plan something anyway and just tell him to show up. And I bet you all that when it's all said and done, FH will say he had fun.

I did not and will not have one - seems most girls on here do - am I the only one?

More than likely, I will not be having an e-party.
