E-Ring Appraisal

Ladies,

Did you get your engagement ring appraised?

If so, where did you go and how much did it cost (the appraisal, not your ring!)?

Can you recommend any places?

I would like to get an appraisal even though insurance only wants the actual sales receipt.

I went to Deborah in Manhasset, she's a vendor here.

It cost about $100. You can either pay by the hour (if you have more then 1 item) or pay per item you want her to appraise.

I know alot of girls here have gone to the Jewelry Judge in Garden City too.

I got my ring appraised at Macy in Herald Square. The cost was 1% of the appraisal value. I brought the papers with me that came with the ring.

You should bring the GIA certification just in case. All you really need to bring is the ring.

My appraisal cost 250 - they also verififed that the diamond I had matched my GIA certificate.

I am an insurance agent and I insure a lot of e rings... one thing you want to be aware of..is paying for an appraisal and insuring the item to the appraised amount unless your insurance is for 'Stated VAlue Coverage' most jewelry floaters are 'repair or replace' contracts... this means that the you would be paying additional premiums to insure the ring for an amount you would never get if you lost it....

I see a lot of people pay 20-30% more then they need to becasue they insure their rings for more then they need to... insurance companies have contracts with major jewlers, and they can replace at a lower cost then your appraisal.

The jeweler where FH bought the ring gave him an appraisal, together with the GIA certificate.

I believe that the Herald Square location is the only Macy's that does appraisals.

Some insurance companies may require a independent appraisal. Also its a good idea to get it appraised to make sure that the GIA/EGL certification is accurate, they aren't always.

My ring came with an appraisal but I had a friend who is a jeweler appraise it a second time (before we added it to our homeowners insurance). They matched so we were happy! Because it was a friend, she actually didn't charge us anything. I'll ask her how much she charges and FM you.

Macy's in Manhasset is the best IMO...
I appraised it at some jewelry store near me n they really ****** me over

It was appraised and insured before FH put it on my finger. If it hadnt been, I wouldnt have taken it. I know he did it in the city - diamond district.

You get a 7 page report & picture of your ring & she's wonderful!!!!!!!!!!
