I consider myself a diamond-ista, but Im not understanding your question. Are you asking about the quality of the diamond or the price?

I was told that a 1 carat almost flawless diamond... aka as J Lo's diamond is about $8,000-9,000 that is just the diamond and not the setting
it all depends what you are looking for

For an I2 with I or J color I think you should pay less. I know that its 1 carat but thats not the best quailty. I paid $1500 for my VVS1, E color .57 ring. Smaller carat but great quality.
I would try and bargain with them.

no, I don't think you are getting ripped off.. you will love it and it won't send you to the poor house...
only thing is that for that color (I-J) I would think maybe a gold setting would look better...

I would look around a little more. I-J is not 'near colorless' - the color ratings go as follows:
D (100% colorless) E F G H I J K L, etc.
You're going to see color in a J, from what I've seen. (A yellow gold setting might be better for this color.) With an I2 clarity you might see inclusions or carbon as well.
What is the cut? Is it ideal? Cut is probably THE most important thing when looking for a diamond - this is where you get the sparkle from.
Look around a little more - you are bound to find *your ring* in the price range you can afford.

For one, although it is certified (which is always a good thing) the IGI is not reputable. Their diagnositics tend to be way off. So if they are saying the color is and 'I' - it might be and 'L' by stricter standards. Also the I2 grading might be off, but either way the inlcusions can visibly be seen by the untrained eye. But MOST importantly there is no information regarding the cut which leaves a huge headway of how brilliant or dull the diamond itself is. Without seeing it in person, I wouldnt take the chance.
ETP - With a white gold setting, you run the risk of the gold being whiter than the diamond. With white gold or platinum you should not go beyond a G or H color. Hope this helps

I agree, cut is most important, and you don't mention the cut. Diamonds can have cut grades of Ideal, Very Good, Good, Fair, or Poor. You want Ideal or else it won't reflect the light well.
oh ok thanks... i got scared for a minute i think mine is GIA because it got appraised for MUCH more than my FH paid
don't you get it certified if you want insurance on it.. if it cost$$$$?
also TIFFANY's website is a great place to research it explains all about clarity and color and all you have to know before buying a diamond

It says on the cert. My jeweler said IGI is worth nothing.

Re: e-ring experts..need opinions
I don't even have a certified ring. what's the difference? i mean, I know it's better for insurance purposes, but my ring did appraise more than we paid and honestly, that's only if it gets lost.
as I said before- erings are NOT investments- if you want to purchase something that will go up in value that you can retire off of, get stocks, bonds or real estate.
I think if she got that ring, it's a fine value, it's under 2k, she'll be happy and that's all that matters.
