E-ring help.... princess cut stone

E-ring help.... princess cut stone

So the stone in my e-ring is loose AGAIN. This is beyond annoying. Anyone with a princess cut stone, what does your setting look like? (Prongs holding diamond in place).

DH said I can get a whole new ring if I want but I think I just want to replace the prong situation, I'm just not sure what other kind of setting they make for princess cut stones.

This is what it looks like now... It's set kind of high so maybe I hit it on stuff a lot... who knows, either way I need to do something to stop this from happening... I'm so scared I'm going to look at it one day and it's going to be gone!

My prongs are the same as yours. I have 4 of them and it seems to be fine. I only hit the diamond itself against my desk once and freaked out b/c it looked a little loose. I brought it downtown to my jeweler and it said it wasn't really lose but he would tighten it more anyway.

sorry that's happening ... i really can't help much with the answer ... but i'd def make sure to get the ring insured just in case something does happen to it one day

They always tighten it for me but I don't want to keep going back there every couple of months... I'm just trying to think if I've ever seen a princess cut ring set differently... I think our prongs are pretty standard.

It's insured... but I would rather have my stone than a replacement

i dont have a princess cut, but i did do some googling

check this out - its a 6 prong set: http://www.jewelswarehouse.com/DS_DP_JewelryN.asp?ID=4412

also, im not sure the metal you have...but maybe talk to the jeweler about getting a different type of metal JUST for the prongs (i think platinum is more durable than white gold, but im not sure)

ok being in the business and your stone always getting loose, i would get a 4 prong head that has actuall prongs that go over the stone.

something like this...

this will allow the jeweler to cut into the prong and set the table of the stone in the prong. hope that helps. if you wanna stop by our store id be more than happy to show you in person what it looks like,

as for the platinum, its softer and its eaiser to break and move. alot of the time when we have a platinum ring we use a 14kt head bc its stronger

My aunt has a princess cut ring - this is her exact setting except with a diamond stone and she has not have any problems. The prongs are actually on top of the diamond.

I am loving this ring!!!

Mine is pretty high... so lowering it is going to be my last resort solution if there isn't anything else I love.

Mine looks just like yours. I thought it was loose a few months ago, so DH took it too his jeweler and he said slight movement is ok, like when i tap it with my finger, it shakes. he said that's normal, but I do look down every so often to make sure it's there.

could you get it set lower...they may be the problem-when it's set higher your more likely to hit it against things

i have the same prongs as you and from what my jeweler told me (my 2nd cousin) he said this is the safest one for a princess cut
