Re: E - Rings...Insurance??
YES! I would absolutely get insurance. As soon as the Allstate office was open after I got engaged, I got insurance! We don't own a home, but we rent, so in order to insure my ring we had to have some other (larger) policy with them. We got a renters insurance policy and my ring is covered under that. Only costs about $30 a month. It's a good idea, in case (God forbid) anything ever happens to your gorgeous diamond!

Re: E - Rings...Insurance??
When FI first bought the ring he immediately added it to his parents insurance. Now we have it covered under our renter's insurance.

Re: E - Rings...Insurance??
I got jewelry insurance online. If you want - I can get you the name of the company (I can't remember the name off hand). I believe it's Jeweler's Mutual. But, you can do a search online. The insurance covers the ring for loss or theft and they replace the ring for the type and value it gets appraised for - you don't get monetary value back.

I got my insurance thru Chubbs. Here's the website with all the coverage info:Chubbs
The person that I spoke to is Keith McVicker and his phone number is 212-888-9800. He's located in Manhattan, but I didn't go there once. I faxed him all the info.

It took me forever to get my butt and gear and get it but I finally did about a year ago. My insurance is 5% of the purchase price annually.

Re: E - Rings...Insurance??
Liz: I'm glad I could help!! I did not give him an appraisal because I haven't gotten one yet. He only needed a copy of the GIA certificate to insure the ring. Since my Dad made my ring, he knew what it was worth so I gave Keith that number and he said fine. My Dad's friend is eventually going to appraise it for me.

Re: E - Rings...Insurance??
yes, my FH had the ring apprased from the jeweler where he bought it from, they charged him a fee for it, but it's from one of the three (I think) national apprasial places availble that are legit. Then he put in onto his home/personal insurance. I think it's a wise idea!

Re: E - Rings...Insurance??
I got my ring appraised from the jeweler who put my ring together. It was in the diamond district and he was really nice - he didn't charge me for it.

Re: E - Rings...Insurance??
We have insurance through Chubb (800-884-3770). We didn't have homeowners or renters so we bought it outright. $263.00 per year. Based on the appraisal of the ring. Be careful getting your ring appraise by the person that sells it to you..or a 'friend' of that jeweler. These people will appraise the ring for more than it is really worth.(the tale is always that it will appraise for double). If it does, there's a problem. Insurance agencies - if the ring is lost- will cover the amount that a ring like your would cost(according to appraisal breakdown- NOT APPRAISAL PRICE) If someone appraises your ring for more than it would actually cost the only person that gets screwed is you because you will pay the premium of insurance based on that price even if you don't get that price when you lose it. Just a word of advise
