Earlier tonight, while doing the fans............

My brother called me and tells me that he and his family are not coming to the wedding because he has no money. Seriously, he knew about this wedding for almost a year. He said that he is giving me enough notice. REALLY?

I am upset that he is not coming. But I am even more upset that my two nieces and my nephew were going to participate in the wedding (flower girls, ring bearer). I am so mad about that

Now what do I do? Get some other kids or just have no kids at all?

My vote is always no kids so I prob shouldn't offer advice on that end. But is there some way you can help your brother? (i.e. - tell him not to give you a gift? or tell him kids don't have to be involved as much?)

My vote is always no kids so I prob shouldn't offer advice on that end. But is there some way you can help your brother? (i.e. - tell him not to give you a gift? or tell him kids don't have to be involved as much?)

If it was a friend, I'd say ok...but your brother?? I'd be pissed to say the least. I didn't have much money back when my brother was getting married but I made it work (with his help)....I wouldn't have missed his wedding for the world.

Explain to him how you feel and that you don't want a gift, you just want them to be there and share your day with you.

He is not traveling. He lives in the Bronx. I told him not to give me a gift. But still...... I just think that it is a totally disrespectful for him to tell me all of this now.

um what!!!!! that's messed up. I was offended when FSIL told me she couldn't come to my bparty because she had no money. If my sister told me she wasn't coming to my wedding because she had to money we would not be on speaking terms

Yeah, my step-brother did something similar. He basically decided that he and my step-sil didn't want to their kids since my ceremony starts at 6pm. And one of the boys was supposed to be my ring bearer. He mentioned this all to me a few weeks ago, but never told me if they were defiantly not going to bring the kids.

It's just really annoying b/c OK, if my nephew's not going to be my ring bearer then I have to find anther one or not have one at all and that means that we don't need to get the pillow,etc. Really, I would have liked a little more notice.

Plus our RSVP date is Monday and they haven't even RSVP'd yet, so I don't even know what their decision is.

So, I feel your pain and you're not the only that's had this happen (even for a different reason).

I wish FH would read this - his sister just told us she's not gonna make it with some cockamamie story about how she bought a bus ticket and the bus company shut down without refunding her money ...

I am sorry but I don't have the slightest sympathy for him. My mother already knows about this. My sister and I think that he is trying to make this about him. Also, I think this is another strategy for him to have the sympathy of my mom and ask for money for a tux or something. I am done with him. I am not going to speak to him again.

I called his wife and she told me that she didn't even know about the whole situation. She said that he made all the decisions without consulting her. So, she said that she is still bringing the kids and if he doesn't want to go, he doesn't have to.
