Re: Early 07 brides...

you should start taking them at least 3 months prior to trying to get pregnant so that it stays in your system.
Even if you don't plan on getting pregnant for 3 years, its a great idea to take them. They're the same as Centrum or anyh other multivitamin, just a lot more folic acid. They're good for you, regardless.
Just tell your gyno your parenthood plans....they'll give you a prescription. My gyno told me he likes all of his newly married patients to have them....even if they're not planning on having children right away b/c it stays in their system, is very healthy, and its a good habit to get into.

i just heard the opposite from my gyn the other day. folic acid goes right out of your system, it doesn't build up.

we're not TTC, but she told me just to take a regular multivitamin and when we DO get pregnant, then i would do prenatals.

before you are pregnant, you need 400 mcg daily (100% of daily total) which is exactly what a multi vitamin has. after you get pregnant, you up it to 600-1000mcg (prenatals).

A few Gyns have told me it needs to build up in your system as does this: article

It does need to build up in ur system, and multivitamins are not the same as prenatal vits.
If you are planning to have a baby or one in the bear future you should start taking prenatal vits now especially folic acid to preven nucal tube defects which can occur, this is most important and you should not wait until you pregnant b/c it is vital for you to be in the best shape and nutrition wise in the 1st trimester b/c that is the most vital time for the baby.

Re: Early 07 brides...

I read most of this thread and it amazes me everytime I hear women talk about wanting children. What does that feel like? It dosen't matter to me either way. Don't get me wrong- I love kids. I have nieces and nephews and I love them to death. But at the end of the day I get to give them back. I just never had that yearn to have children. It must be a good feeling to want something like that. The funny thing too is that I have been pregnant. I would have been 7 months right now but I lost the baby after 8 weeks. I wasn't upset either. I just figured there was something wrong with it and my body rejected it. But I wasn't all broken up about it like some women get. I guess I was born without the clock. I'm a d@mned great babysitter though!

I've been told the same thing by different GYNs Kate and read articles that said that too. It's good to have more confirmation.

Lots of luck to you! I plan to start charting a few months before we officially start trying, just because I find it so interesting.
