Early rave for Black Forest Bakery!!! cake talk!

I'm so excited!!

Tommy at Black Forest is awesome. He is totally honest and so helpful. I told him about my theme and the vision I had of pinstripes going down all through my cake- he loved the idea and was excited about it, but was honest with me- to get it right, we had to use fondant. And that costs more. The upgrade just wasn't worth it to us. I'm bummed, but oh well.

But I'm excited about what we're gonna do anyway!!! We're gonna have a navy ribbon going horizontally around the bottom of the layers, and...the best part...an idea that came from StealthGroom...he's gonna create the patten of the Yankee Stadium facade around the top of each layer!!! This white design right here...

I'm so excited! I can't wait to see what he comes up with!!! The cakes he showed me were just unbelievable- he really knows what he's doing!

But man, if you think I'm crazy with my Yankee theme- you shoulda seen the yankee cakes- SCARY! My mom would have been horrified if I went with a traditionally shaped wedding cake that had pictures of Yankees and logos and little baseball figurines all over it...yikes! Maybe they weren't wedding cakes but they were certainly tiered cakes!

ooh, cant wait to see final product tara!!!

the other cakes youre talking about sound like they were yankees grooms cakes. they can get crazy!

Thing is though, it was shaped like a traditional tiered cake- it was INSANE! They seriously do that for groom cakes? I've seen the cakes that are designed to look like the stadium- but these were hysterical! A little bit on the childish side. Then again, men are babies!

Tara, your cake is going to look so great!!!

Part chocolate mousse and the other part is cannoli cream filling with chocolate chips! What was funny was I told Tom I wanted cannoli but wasn't sure I should go with the chips- even though I know I would love them. And he said, well you're not getting the pinstripes- so you get the chips!

I called FH during the process and asked him if he felt the extra was worth it to have the pinstripes- he said no. Though he did say I could do it if I wanted to. So...we scrapped that so in exchange I get chocolate chips!

Tara,
We are getting our wedding cake from Black Forest Bakery also. Tom is wonderful. We are so happy that he is creating our wedding cake. We are having a autumn leave wedding cake. He is using buttercreame because foundant is more money and we don't care for the taste of it. Your cake will beautiful!!

It sounds great looking and delicious. Part chocolate mousse/cannoli cream? Makes me wish we were doing a dairy wedding.

thanks for the props. I must admit, I'm pretty psyched to see the pictures of how the facade turns out...
