Ears allergic to diamonds...anyone else have this problem?

I have a beautiful set of diamond earrings, that I CANT WEAR!

Every time I wear them, my ears get infected after the first week. I took them to a jewler to make sure that the white gold is REAL gold and they said it was... so whats up with them?

I can wear my pearls for a straight year and I dont get any infectitons... Those re yellow gold posts though...

Anyone care to shed a light on this confusion?

**ps- i know im not allergic to the diamonds themselves lol...just my earrings

My ears are allergic to everything but gold. Its rather annoying. From what I understand white gold and gold are slightly different. I still wear earings but what I do is first dip them in neosporin or bacitracin and then put them in my ear. It usually helps. But I can't wear them over night. Sorry :( But hopefully you can wear them all day and then take them out when you sleep??

Thats the problem then. I cant wear white gold. Two pairs of diamond earrings and they're doing the same thing... grrr
Maybe I'll get them reset in yellow... I dont like yellow though bc all my jewelry is white gold!

I wonder what makes someone allergic to things though...Im allergic to everything even those 'hypo allergetic earrings'

My sister is allergic to white gold and pretty much anything that is not yellow gold. You can have your earrings tested for the level of gold in them. My sister is not allergic to all white gold so you can try resetting them, that might work.

I've never heard of anyone being allergic to diamonds... usually they are allergic to the types of metal.. like silver or fake whatever and need to have gold. There has to be a difference between yellow and white gold... so I'm thinking that must be it. Why don't you try having the jewelery dip them in yellow gold for you and see how that works? IDK if that will definately work, but it's worth a try... especailly to wear your diamond earrings and not have them just sitting there.. that would be so sad. Also, I would have to agree with the previous post.. don't sleep in them - I don't know if you are or not.. but that's good advice. When i was in 3rd grade I got my second holes.. and the guy who pearced them told me I was allergic to everything but real gold. And that was true for sometime when i was really young.. but I must have grown out of it because now I can wear any kind... thankfully.

My ears are also allergic to everybut BUT gold.. I notice when I pierce my belly years ago it also got infected.. Now I realized my body is just allergic to everything except GOLD..

you may be allergic to the alloy mixed with yellow gold to create white gold. 18 carat white gold has less alloy in it so try resetting it to 18 carat white gold or just yellow gold.

There might be nickel in the posts...I have the same problem...even though the diamonds were set in 18k White Gold, the posts had nickel in them and my ears were SO irritated!

It might be the rhodium coating on the white gold..
