I just came across these boards and am soooo glad I did, everyone seems so helpful!!! I am recently engaged and hoping to get married next September with a guest list of about 140-150. I live in Suffolk and want an East End wedding. I have some questions though I hope people may be able to help me with. Has anyone been to gurney's recently? I have a friend who said she went to the spa back in March and it was looking rather run down. I was thinknig about going there but not sure if it's a waste of time. I'm also thinknig Montauk Manor, I know it's not big but is it nice (picture on thier site look great) any idea about prices/reviews/opinions. My only other idea was a vineyard (one of my best friends got married at Raphael--IT WAS AMAZING!!!Nicest wedding I've ever been to!!) I don't want to get married at the same place so am wondering if there are any other vineyards that have receptions rooms, I would not like the whole tent set up. Anyone know? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Vineyard Caterers in Aquebogue. They'll accomodate your numbers and are great - they're where I'm getting married
its not as far out east as Montauk, but its very pretty.
The staff is great, professional. And no tent necessary :) I hear nothing but great things. But i heard wonderful things about Rafael also - it looks gorgeous.
Also try Pellegrini vineyards in cutchogue. I hear they do weddings too.
Good Luck!

Re: East End receptions....help!!!
We were originally thinking of having our wedding at a vineyard (we decided against it b/c we chose to get married in March; if we were to do it in the summer, I'd be back looking at vineyards!). Many of them will do weddings. I don't have a list, but I would google 'Long Island vineyards' or 'Long Island wineries' (or something like that). At least one site had a whole list of places with info about whether they will host private events. One piece of info, though - I do remember that many of the wineries will only host using tents.
Re: Gurney's, someone on the boards recently stayed there (a newlywed, perhaps?), and seemed a bit disappointed, from what I recall.
Good luck and welcome - I have found these boards to be incredibly helpful!

Re: East End receptions....help!!!
Im another Vineyard Caterer Bride. I live in Riverhead and I did my homework about having a wedding on the North Fork.
Raphael is BEAUTIFUL!!! Their reception room is one of the most romantic rooms Ive ever seen!!! BUT then there is the price. For a sit down dinner not only are you paying around $125 for a Sat PM but you also have a site fee which is between $3K-$10K depending on the time of year you want. The only thing (besides the price) I didnt like about that place was the gift shop right out in the open. Too commercialized.
Giorgios is also beautiful! I am having the same amount of people to my wedding and the owner made me feel like it wasnt worth his time. He told me I couldnt have it on a Saturday afternoon because he needed to save it for a party with more people... I could have it Sunday. Doesnt work for me. I was very put out by him but there are other brides on here who had a completly different experience so I this is JMO of there.
East Wind is beautiful also. Their prices are very reasonable. There were things I didnt like about there but again these are just my opinions. THat I wont go into because of people feelings about booking there... if you did you made a great choice.
I also looked into having a recept. at Palmer and other vineyards but it seemed like tooooooo much work. All the rentals and caterers and other things to think about when I have SOOO many other things to think about.
I went to Vineyard Caterers and the place is SOOO pretty. The grounds are beautiful. The inside is also great. The people there are very helpful and want to cater to you. PLUS I havent heard one bad thing about the food or service. So that was my choice.
I was at Gurneys back in November but I stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms. It was very nice. We did the whole spa thing and that seemed new. I could see though that some of the rooms needed some work. Check it out. They might have upgraded their facilities in the recent past.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Re: East End receptions....help!!!
I posted about Gurney's on the Newlywed board, you may want to read it.
Wollfer Vinyard in Bridgehampton also is a very unique location. It's not good for large events though.
Also for a 'beachy' feel there is the Bridgehampton Tennis club right on the water.
Atlantica at the Westhampton Bath and Tennis is also a lovely location for an affair of around 100-150.
Montauk Manor looks beautiful, but you may have to pay your vendors a travel fee depending on where they are coming from.
Just a few off the top of my head...if I think of more I'll post them! Good luck and let me know if you have any specific questions.

Re: East End receptions....help!!!
Welcome - I got married at Gurney's Inn this past July and it was beautiful. The thing with Gurney's (and Montauk in general) is that it is very rustic and nautical looking. It has such a great reputation for being 'the place to stay' so I think people expect it to be like a Ritz Carlton Hotel - when in actuality it is very different. The look of it is supposed to be rustic. If that is what your looking for, let me know and I'll share more details my wedding with you.
Montauk Manor is also very beautiful althought not on the water. You might also want to try the Montauk Yacht Club - although I think they may be more expensive. Also, many of my vendors were from Nasssau and Western Suffolk County and I was not charged a travel fee.
Good Luck!

Re: East End receptions....help!!!
Try Gansett Green Manor in Amagansett. It's an inn that DH and I stay at frequently with a beautiful backyard/field area. Definitely something different.
We also loked at Wolfer Estates, but with thier $15,000 site fee, it was a bit too steep for us. But absolutely beautiful.
We looked at James Lane Cafe as well. It's a quaint little restaurant/inn that is kept up beautifully and has a nice yard-area for a wedding. It is a little small though, 150 would have to be the absolute max.
If you're looking for something different, try some of the nature preserves out East. They are really nice and some could be perfect for a wedding location. A lot of work, though.

Re: East End receptions....help!!!
I'm another Atlantica bride - its located in the Bath & Tennis hotel on Dune Road in West Hampton overlooking the ocean. So far I have nothing but rave reviews...they have been extremely helpful and accomodating and the food at the tasting was amazing. I love the inside and it has an upscale beachy feel to it. September is a perfect time of year out there as the summer crowds have gone and weather is usually (knock wood) beautiful.
I haven't been to any weddings at the vineyards, but have heard great reviews on Raphael and Gristina/Galluccio.
Good luck with your search and let us know if we can help.

Re: East End receptions....help!!!
Our reception was at East Hampton Point and we absolultely loved every minute of it! We orginally wanted the reception to be in Montauk, but we fell in love with EHP. I think the vineyards would be amazing, too! I saw someone mentioned the Montauk Manor, beautiful place, the only thing is you have to have weddings in a tent they set up which we did not want to do. Good luck in your search, you will find the perfect place!

Re: East End receptions....help!!!
You should try Giorgio's. They have been wonderful. It's in Bating Hollow on a gold course and overlooking the north shore.
Also, FYI, the Bridghampton Surf & Tennis is no longer having wedding there.
Gurney's is nice but very expensive. I live in the Hamptons and the only problem you run into is that if you want to book hotel rooms in season (April-Nov) almost all of the places require quests to stay a minimun of two nights and the rooms range about $180-260 per night.

Re: East End receptions....help!!!
Our Reception is at the Montaul Yacht Club. I really wanted Gurneys but it high priced for the food they give you. I live here and I have had a lot of friends get married there. I haven't heard a lot of good things about the food.
