.....letting grandma (or family type person) to take care of the baby while still young and you going back to work?
To finish Preggo week (thanks to my sister) i figure i'll ask this question. some moms choose to stay home while other hand off the baby like a football to grandma. what do you think?
For us, my sister has somebody trusting in the house (mom) and doesn't have to hire nanny's who can be scary sometimes..
sorry so late..i actually did work today

I don't think parents want to go back to work, I think if they could afford to stay home, they would. If they are lucky enough to have help from a family member that's great! I would definelty do all I could to stay home with my child, but I wouldn't be foolish if we needed the income....

I'll be handing off the football, er, baby to my Dad & his GF.
Actually, Jim and I were discussing this the other day and I am not so comfortable in his ability to stimulate the child so we are considering 3 days with grandpa and 2 days in daycare.
I would KILL for a nanny.

my mom is gonna switch hours and work part time and live at one of my sisters houses that normally get rented out which is close to the baby

I am hoping my mom can watch the baby when I return to work. Im hoping to also win the lotto so I dont have to work, but in reality, yes, mom has offered.

Re: Easy Poll: Do you plan on.......
My mother watched James 4 days a week for 5 hours a day...although by January FH should be working nights...so we might not need my mother at all...but if we do...it will be alot less then it is now. I dont know what we would do without my mother...James was too much of a preemie for day care to even be a consideration.

Re: Easy Poll: Do you plan on.......
This subject recently came up, since we are currently TTC
AND knowing that I will have to return to work fulltime once our children are born (someday) my Mom has graciously offered to take care of the baby when I return to work
I am still unsure, however, if I will let her do it 5 days a week ..or, if as Sandra said, I will have her watch the baby 3 days and use daycare for 2 days.
This is partly becuase I would NOT want my Mom to feel as though she couldn't do 'her own thing' a few days a week .. she deserves that much, she paid her dues raising us and I DO feel slightly bad to ask this responsiblity of her. Also , I would probably split the days because I do think that being around other people/children, in the structure of a good daycare center, is a very healthy way to keep the child well-rounded and not get TOO attached to grandma/grandpa
Its not an easy decision no matter how you figure it out - and diff. things work for diff. people

Oh my God I'm not alone! I don't think my MIL would be a good influence on my kids. She does everything how ever she pleases. I'd rather day care then her demented ideas on what's wrong and right. I think it's good for kids to socialize early on.

My MIL wanted us to drop the baby off Monday morning and then pick her up Friday night since they are in Staten Island and we are on LI! CRAZY! Right now my mom has been watching my daughter while I am at work, I am now considering splitting the week 3 days with grandma and 2 days daycare when she gets a little older, not sure I can feel 100% about MIL!.......

Re: Easy Poll: Do you plan on.......
I was able to stay home with both of my babies for the first year of their lives. It was a financial struggle, but I do not regret doing it! When I did go back to work, my mom, who has always been a stay at home mom, took care of them.
My kids are now 19 and 15, but that doesn't mean my mom is idle. She now watches my sister's three year old son!

Re: Easy Poll: Do you plan on.......
I doubt that we'd be able to afford me quitting my job. DH and I make about the same amount of money and we need it all.
but, we're also not planning on kids for at least 3 more years, so we'll see what happens.

I plan on going back PT after about 4 months. We'll have my mom to help out for the hours that my DH is still at work but she won't be with the baby FT.

I would love to be a S.a.h.m. but unfortunately that will not be possible for a little while. My inlaws reminded me on more then 1 occasion that my MIL retired for a reason and thats what they want. I don't mind the help and welcome it but really ant to raise my baby. THe way it looks now- I may even have to change careers to make my schedule more baby friendly.
