I got an email from ebay saying my account has been validated and theyre freezing it for 24hrs to ensure security, etc. and then says click here to update info. is this really from ebay? or is it a virus fakeout type thing?

Definitely contact ebay. Try to log on to your ebay account and let them know.

Re: ebay users
do not enter any passwords or anything. go to the ebay.com site and log in to your account that way and see if there is anything there. Then contact ebay. I got something like that the other day from paypal. Most times they are scams.

Re: ebay users
i get those a lot. from them and paypal. if you go to the site or just run the mouse over the hyperlink where it tells you to click here you will see in the address that it isnt an 'ebay' site. probably something else is the address.
it shouldnt be a virus if you were to go on the website. so long as you arent you using internet explorer. internet explorer really is a lousy browser. switch to mozilla firefox. plus you can decorate how your browser looks !
I got it twice to an email address that I have that I don't use for ebay. I think it is fake.

Re: ebay users
These emails are fake. I'm sure ebay has a policy saying they will never email you asking you to update information or anything of that sort.

Re: ebay users
I've gotten a few of these from different banks as well. I called the bank I received the first one from, one in Chicago that I thought there could be a work related account with me listed as a contact. The person I spoke to warned me about the ebay one too.
She gave me a few helpful hints on how to avoid being swindled by these people... For banks, if you have never used online banking, there would never be a request to update your information online. Also, most requests would come via snail mail. She also said don't click on links in emails, log into your accounts the way you usually do.

Re: ebay users
I would contact Ebay immediately before you do anything the email says to do. I've gotten those from both Ebay and Paypal and they've turned out to be either viruses or identity-theft attempts.
