Eczema?

Eczema?

My son has had extremely dry skin. The doctor's told us to put on several different lotions, and we finally found one they didn't recommend that seems to work wonders. I think it's called gentle naturals. My question: the doc never said that my son has eczema but it seems to me like he does. His ankles are his worst spot. They are extremely red and dry, where the lines near his ankles are well defined, and it looks painful. He kicks his legs all the time and we noticed that it seems like he is rubbing his feet together to itch. Does this sound like eczema? Should the doc have recommended something else? Please help. Thanks. Also, could this be a reason why my son is still somewhat fussy on a daily basis? Thanks.

Re: Eczema?

Have you tried Aveeno for babies - it is for eczema? My son's skin is not at all dry since I put than on after his bath every day....

Re: Eczema?

I have exzema, and my little niece has it. I use Cetaphil, and I know my sister uses it on my niece. Yes, it sounds like that is what he has. You want a nice thick lotion, not one that comes through a pump or squirt top - it is too thin. Make sure you gob it on right after he takes a bath, and still a little damp. That way the cream holds the moisture into his skin, and then I would put it on one other time during the day.

Re: Eczema?

My son is 4 1/2 months and has had the same thing. First the dryness started out being in the creases of his ankles and his wrists, they started to get red too. Then he started to get a couple little patches on his legs, arms and face. I was putting regular baby lotion all over him and it didn't seem to help that much. I asked the doctor what to do at his 4 month visit and he told me to put Aquaphor all over him. It is an OTC lotion made by Eucerin and is more like Vaseline than a lotion. It has worked really well for him. His dry patches are gone and the ankle and wrist spots are gone too. It doesn't even look like he had dry patches at all (and they were pretty bad). I put it on once in the morning and once at bedtime. [BTW, the doctor said that the weather is a factor in the dryness.]

Good luck with your little boy!
